Marvel’s version of the Grim Reaper surprised fans, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe is building up a powerful group of villains for Phase 6, drawing from some of the most formidable characters in Marvel Comics. The first of these new villains appeared in a film released in early 2026, immediately shifting what fans anticipated for the future of the MCU.
Demetrius Grosse joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2026 with the series Wonder Man, playing the character Eric Williams. He appeared in two of the show’s eight episodes, fleshing out the backstory of Simon Williams and creating conflict for the main hero.

Eric and Simon shared a loving relationship, but Eric often criticized Simon for prioritizing his Hollywood career over family. This tension came to a head at their mother’s birthday party, as depicted in Episode 3, culminating in Simon having a dramatic outburst and breaking things in the kitchen.
In the last episode, Eric and Simon share a heartfelt moment after the premiere of Simon’s movie, Wonder Man. Eric compliments Simon on his work and says he’s thrilled for his future, but also jokingly reminds him not to forget their friends and family back home now that he’s becoming famous.
This version of Eric is quite different from how he appears in the comics. In the original stories, Eric was a criminal working for the Maggia, and Simon sought him out to get revenge on Tony Stark. He later turned into a supervillain with the power to control the undead, and the Tinkerer created a mechanical scythe for him to use against the Avengers.

The comic book origins of Wonder Man weren’t explored at all in the story. He didn’t display any special powers or hints that he was anything more than a normal person. Instead of a heroic or villainous conflict, his rivalry with Simon Williams was presented simply as a family dispute between brothers.
The Disney+ series Wonder Man kicked off the MCU’s 2026 releases. Starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Sir Ben Kingsley, Arian Moayed, Demetrius Grosse, and Zlatko Buric, the show follows Simon Williams as he tries to land a role in a Wonder Man movie reboot, all while keeping his superpowers a secret. All eight episodes are now available to stream.
Will Grim Reaper Be Realized in the MCU?

Currently, Marvel Studios hasn’t announced a second season of Wonder Man, but the show’s creators have ideas for future storylines. If the show continues, it could allow Marvel to delve into the darker, villainous side of Eric Williams, which is a common element in the Wonder Man comics.
Eric and Simon seemed to be repairing their relationship at the end of Episode 8, so it would take a significant event to cause another rift. For example, if Simon were to commit a crime – like helping Trevor Slattery escape from prison – it could easily drive the brothers apart.
Taking that action might make Eric determined to challenge his brother. However, it’s unknown who he would ally with to do so, or how he’d gain the powers he’s famous for in the comics. Although these storylines haven’t been officially confirmed yet, Eric’s role in the Wonder Man series makes him a strong candidate to be Simon’s primary antagonist as Simon develops into a superhero.
