At New York Comic-Con, fans got their first look at Wonder Man’s costume for the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe series. The show, coming to Disney+, will be a unique 30-minute comedy that satirizes Hollywood. Aquaman star Yaya Abdul-Mateen II plays Simon Williams, an actor who lands the lead role in a new Wonder Man movie within the MCU. As Williams prepares for the part, his life takes an unexpected turn when he actually gains superpowers.
At New York Comic-Con, Marvel Studios showed off the costume for Wonder Man, as seen in the movie within the Marvel Cinematic Universe where the character was portrayed by actor Brent Willard. It’s expected that Simon Williams, the actor playing Wonder Man, will wear a modernized version of the character’s iconic suit.

I was so excited to see the *Wonder Man* VHS cover at NYCC! It finally gave us a great look at Simon Willard in his suit, alongside his co-star Jackie Kay, and what looks like one of the bad guys from the show. It really gave me a good feel for the series!
It’s unknown if the characters Willard and Kay are inspired by real people, or if they’ll appear in the upcoming Disney+ series, perhaps using old footage.

New merchandise for the classic movie *Wonder Man* has been released, featuring items like a VHS tape, a lunchbox, and a flask. This comes as actor Williams is set to star in a modern update of the film.

The new Wonder Man costume closely resembles Simon Williams’ classic comic book look, with the main addition of sleeves.

With the revival of *Wonder Man* for a new audience, potentially years after its initial creation, viewers can expect some changes to the superhero’s costume, and it might even transform further once he gains his abilities.
The new series *Wonder Man* is coming to Disney+ in December. It stars Yaya Abdul-Mateen and features Ben Kingsley, Demetrius Grosse, Ed Harris, Lauren Glazier, and Josh Gad. An actor from the movie *Spider-Man: No Way Home* will also be returning for a role.
Wonder Man Promises Unique Hollywood Commentary, And It Could Be Great
The marketing for the upcoming Disney+ series *Wonder Man* has been unusually self-aware. For example, actor Yaya Abdul-Mateen II recently appeared at the premiere of *The Fantastic Four: First Steps* while dressed as his *Wonder Man* character, Simon Williams, and even gave an interview *as* Simon.
The recent interview mentioned a growing friendship between Williams and Trevor Slattery, the character played by Ben Kingsley who was the villain in *Iron Man 3*. Kingsley will be returning as Slattery in the upcoming show *Wonder Man*, which is a satirical comedy about Hollywood. This could allow the show to explore themes of cancel culture and public perception.
The Disney+ series *Wonder Man* presents an opportunity to address the ongoing debate about race-swapping in Hollywood. Simon Williams, the character, will be portrayed as Black in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a departure from his comic book origins and the original actor, Brent Willard, who was White.
It’s still too early to know if this kind of self-aware storytelling will be successful, but initial reactions to *Wonder Man* were overwhelmingly positive, with some calling it the best Marvel show yet, which has created high expectations.
