Marvel Studios Finally Releases Official First ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Teaser Online

Joe and Anthony Russo, the directors behind the film Doomsday, are known for strong marketing for their Marvel movies. However, Marvel Studios is taking things further with the promotion for their latest project, releasing a new teaser clip each week during the holidays. The first teaser features Chris Evans reprising his role as Steve Rogers, though not as Captain America. While rumors suggest Evans may play different versions of the character, his exact role remains unconfirmed. You can watch the teaser below.

Fans Have Been Split Over Steve Rogers’ Return

Marvel Studios

When Anthony Mackie first took on the role of Captain America earlier this year, some Marvel fans weren’t convinced he could live up to Chris Evans’ portrayal of the character. Now, with Chris Evans returning to the MCU, some fans who support Mackie as Captain America are worried that his version of the hero might be overshadowed in the upcoming team-up movie.

Look, I get why some fans are upset about Steve Rogers coming back so soon after Sam Wilson officially became Captain America in Captain America: Brave New World. And yeah, I can see the concern that it might mess up that beautiful ending we got for Steve in Avengers: Endgame. But honestly, I don’t think it will! I believe there are plenty of good reasons why this isn’t a retcon – a change to established story – and that it won’t take anything away from Sam’s journey or Steve’s overall story arc. I’m optimistic that Marvel has a plan and it will all make sense!

Steve Rogers’ last scene showed him as an old man, peacefully living out his life with Peggy Carter after putting the Infinity Stones back where they belonged. What experiences those aged eyes had witnessed remains a mystery, leading many to believe the Steve we briefly saw in the teaser is the same man continuing to live in the past. Something eventually disrupts his quiet life – it could be a surprise visitor, or perhaps the natural end of his timeline, but the possibilities are numerous.

The post-credit scene includes a tag stating “Steve Rogers will return,” suggesting we’ll be seeing the man himself, not necessarily Captain America. Combined with rumors of multiple Captain America variants appearing in the movie, it seems unlikely that Chris Evans will reprise the role that Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) currently holds. We’ll have to wait another year, with the release of Avengers: Doomsday, to get all the answers.
