It’s been a while since Scarlet Witch appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. At the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Wanda Maximoff seemingly sacrificed herself by collapsing a mountain on top of her. While the MCU has continued without her, fans have definitely noticed her absence. As one of Marvel’s most powerful characters, many are hoping she’ll return. For now, Marvel Studios is introducing another strong character who shares a connection to Wanda’s story.
Polaris, Wanda’s half-sister, will be a major character in the second season of X-Men ’97. Despite being family, the two have never appeared together on screen before, and Polaris is set to debut in 2026.

I’m excited to report that Polaris is officially joining the cast of X-Men ’97! Marvel just dropped the Season 2 poster – our first real look at what’s coming – and she’s featured prominently. This is a big deal because it’s the first time we’ll see Polaris actively involved in the story of this animated series. We’re looking at a Summer 2026 premiere, so the wait will be a bit long, but it looks like it’ll be worth it!

Polaris had a small appearance in the Season 1 finale’s “Tolerance Is Extinction” storyline, but she wasn’t a central character. She appeared in flashbacks within Magneto’s memories, as Charles Xavier attempted to talk him down, and as an older version forced into slave labor with Rachel Summers in Cable’s vision of a bleak future. While she didn’t speak or have much of a role in these scenes, they hinted at a more significant part for her in Season 2.

The New York Comic Con 2025 trailer revealed that she’ll be part of the storyline set in the past. There, she’ll first meet Charles Xavier. This places her with Rogue, Beast, Magneto, and Nightcrawler – a team sent back to ancient Egypt in 3000 BC. They’ll encounter a young En Sabah Nur, before he becomes Apocalypse. Considering her popularity in the comics and her complex family history, it makes sense she’s featured in one of the show’s central storylines.
Who Is Polaris in the Comics?
Lorna Dane, who later became known as Polaris, first appeared in The X-Men comic book in 1968. Writer Arnold Drake and artist Jim Steranko created the character, but she didn’t receive the name Polaris until 1976 in issue #97. Polaris has the power to control magnetic fields, allowing her to move metal and generate powerful forces. Her abilities are so refined, she’s considered equal to Magneto – who is actually her father – and can battle even the strongest mutants in the Marvel universe.

Unlike her father, Magneto, who is driven by strong beliefs and little tolerance for disagreement, Polaris generally wants to avoid conflict and live a normal life. However, the comics repeatedly involve her in dangerous situations – she’s been controlled by others, transformed into a villain, lost her powers, and even tricked into fighting the X-Men. Despite everything, she always manages to overcome these challenges and ultimately returns to her rightful place as a hero.

For years, fans guessed that Magneto was the father of Lorna Dane, but it wasn’t officially revealed in the comics until 2003, a full 35 years after her first appearance. The truth behind her birth is quite tragic. Lorna was the result of an affair between Magneto and a woman named Suzanna. When Lorna was a baby, her mother and stepfather died in a plane crash triggered by the unintentional first manifestation of her powers. Magneto discovered her at the crash site, had her memories altered by Mastermind, and then arranged for her to be raised by adoptive parents who didn’t know her true origins.
From this point on, Magneto’s family history gets a bit complicated. He had children with multiple women. He and Magda had two children together: Wanda and Pietro, who are known as the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. This means Wanda, Pietro, and Lorna all have the same father, Magneto, but different mothers.
Aside from her personal life, Polaris is best known as a key member of the X-Factor team. She frequently works with Havok, Alex Summers – Cyclops’s younger brother – and the two have a long-standing romantic relationship. With Havok confirmed to be in Season 2 of X-Men ’97, their connection promises to be just as compelling as the superhero action.
