Marvel Studios Announces Return of 1 MCU Young Avengers Hero After His 4 Year Absence

A popular superhero from the Young Avengers team will be back in Marvel Cinematic Universe movies next year with the *Vision Quest* storyline. This return is notable because the MCU has recently introduced many heroes and villains, but often leaves them out of stories for long periods. Over the past four years, several characters who could become the Young Avengers have been introduced, including Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani), Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld), and Ironheart (Dominique Thorne), as well as Wanda Maximoff’s sons, Billy and Tommy, with the hope of eventually uniting them as a team.

At New York Comic-Con, Marvel Television released the first trailer for the Disney+ series *Vision Quest*, officially confirming Ruaridh Mollica’s role as Thomas Shepherd, also known as Speed. Many fans will recognize Shepherd as Tommy Maximoff, the son of the Scarlet Witch, who was first introduced in *WandaVision*.

People who saw the *Vision Quest* trailer said it concluded with a shot of Mollica’s character appearing in a security camera recording, revealing him to be Thomas Shepherd.

Tommy, portrayed by Jett Klyne, first appeared in the Disney+ series *WandaVision* as one of the children created within Wanda’s reality in Westview. Later, Elizabeth Olsen’s character, a superhero who becomes a villain, searched across the multiverse for her children, ultimately leading to Billy and Tommy reappearing in *Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness*.

It’s been four years since Tommy last appeared in *Doctor Strange 2*, and he’ll be back in the Disney+ series *Vision Quest* in Fall 2026.

I’m so excited for *Vision Quest*! It’s going to wrap up the story that started with *WandaVision* and continued in *Agatha All Along*. It’s pretty clear now that this whole trilogy was really about introducing Wiccan and Speed – the Maximoff twins – and setting them up as the next generation of heroes in the MCU. It’s been a great ride so far!

Luca Mollica is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the twin brother of Joe Locke, who previously played Wiccan in the Disney+ series *Agatha All Along*. The two actors recently shared the stage in a West End production of *Clarkston*, a play where their characters meet and form a connection while one is facing a serious illness.

As a huge Marvel fan, it was heartbreaking to see the Westview anomaly finally collapse in WandaVision. But what really got me was the fate of the Kaplan family. Poor Billy Maximoff was fading as Wanda’s magic unraveled, and somehow, his soul ended up transferring into the body of the 13-year-old William Kaplan, who tragically died in a car accident. It was like a rebirth, but a really sad and complicated one! It explained so much about Billy’s powers and connection to Wanda, and honestly, it still gives me chills thinking about it.

After what happened to Billy in *WandaVision*, Tommy faces a similar challenge. *Vision Quest* will need a clever explanation for how he was reborn as Thomas Shepherd. It would be hard to believe that two teens died at the same time the magical barrier fell, so the show might take a different approach to Tommy’s story.

In *Vision Quest*, Mollica is joined by a cast of characters including Paul Bettany as White Vision, James Spader as Ultron, Todd Stashwick as Paladin, James D’Arcy as JARVIS, T’Nia Miller as Jocasta, and Faran Tahir as Raza, along with other familiar and new faces from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Tommy’s Vision Quest Return Could Set Up Elizabeth Olsen’s MCU Comeback

The season finale of *Agatha All Along* concluded with Billy Maximoff and Agatha Harkness embarking on a new adventure. Agatha, now in a spectral form, announced their mission: to find Tommy, setting the stage for a future storyline focused on reuniting Wanda Maximoff’s sons.

There was talk of a sequel series to *Agatha All Along* focusing on finding Tommy, but it’s now looking unlikely. Disney+ is shifting away from short, one-off series and is now concentrating on shows that could run for multiple seasons within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

With *Vision Quest* being presented as the end of the *WandaVision* story arc, it feels like a natural setting for the Maximoff family to come together. However, Marvel Studios might be holding off on a full family reunion, potentially saving it for future *Avengers* films like *Doomsday* and *Secret Wars*.

Even so, *Vision Quest* will be a crucial event in the ongoing storyline, potentially bringing almost the entire family back into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff’s situation following *Doctor Strange 2* remains unknown, a reunion between her father and brother could be the key to solving the mystery of her whereabouts.
