Marvel star "almost fired" for leaking news

As a lifelong Marvel fan, I’ve been captivated by the universe that Kevin Feige and his team have meticulously crafted over two decades. The passion of the fans is palpable, and it’s no wonder why Marvel Studios has become the powerhouse it is today, amassing a staggering $30 billion at the box office.

Marvel Studios stands tall as the dominant force in the Hollywood film industry. The success of their Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) franchise has made it an unrivaled leader at the box office, amassing a staggering $30 billion since the debut of Iron Man in 2008. With its impressive collection of 34 MCU films, this cinematic universe has significantly transformed the landscape of filmmaking, as fans eagerly await each new Marvel superhero movie, filling theaters with excitement whenever a fresh release hits the screens.

For two decades, Marvel Mania has been thriving, which explains why fans’ enthusiasm is at an all-time high. In fact, their passion is so intense that they crave every minute detail about each new release. Given this voracious appetite for info, it can be quite challenging for the actors to keep secrets about upcoming projects.

Over time, as Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) productions grow increasingly complex, it’s become more accurate to say that the main actors are kept in the dark about many project details to prevent accidental spoilers.

Additionally, it seems that at one point, a well-known Marvel actor almost lost his part in the franchise due to some circumstances.

Frank Grillo reveals Marvel “almost fired” him over accidentally leaking news

Actor Frank Grillo disclosed that Marvel came close to dismissing him due to almost exposing information about the Marvel Cinematic Universe films he featured in. This is one explanation behind his consistent caution when responding to queries regarding prominent franchise projects, so as not to mislead others.

As a thrilled admirer, I’m excited to share that I’ve stepped into the DC Universe alongside Peter Safran and James Gunn, taking on the character of Rick Flag Sr. In an exclusive chat with ComicBook.com before my debut in the animated series Creature Commandos on Max this December, I was cautious about revealing too many details. After all, a premature disclosure during my time with Marvel almost jeopardized my role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

I’m so bad at this. Marvel almost fired me 36 f-ing times because I don’t know, I never want to lie… But I’ve been warned.

Grillo portrayed the character of Brock Rumlow in the MCU, appearing in the movies Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War. The character, also known as Crossbones, was killed when he detonated a bomb that the Scarlet Witch attempted to divert from a crowded area. Grillo would, however, reprise his role in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, which brought about an end to the Infinity Saga.

Although Grillo did an excellent job in the character, viewers frequently thought Crossbones wasn’t fully leveraged within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), and could have been a more impactful antagonist. This is particularly true following The Winter Soldier, as it expertly paved the way for his comeback.

It’s clear that Marvel is very committed to maintaining secrecy about their storylines before each new project launches, as it’s no secret that this isn’t the first time we’ve heard actors having trouble keeping details under wraps. For instance, Mark Ruffalo, playing the Hulk, and Tom Holland, portraying Spider-Man, have a history of accidentally revealing plot twists.

In a playful manner, they express concern about repeating past mistakes, which is why Marvel often provides them with scripts containing censored details. It’s not just them; actresses like Elizabeth Olsen and Emilia Clarke have also joked about Marvel’s commitment to maintaining the secrecy of their storylines, demonstrating their dedication to ensuring that fans can enjoy their projects without any spoilers.

Grillo has been cast as Rick Flag Sr., starting with providing the voice for the character in “Creature Commandos.” Additionally, his role encompasses the live-action projects within the franchise, as he will feature in both the upcoming productions directed by Gunn – “Superman” and “Peacemaker” season 2.
