Marvel series cancelled at Disney; won't return for another season

As a devoted Marvel enthusiast with over three decades of comic book adventures under my belt, it is with a heavy heart that I share my thoughts on the recent cancellation of “Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.” Having grown up watching the X-Men cartoons and falling in love with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s always been a delight to see these characters brought to life in new ways.

Marvel has been a prominent player in film production for quite some time, yet recently, it’s also dipped its toes into television. With Disney Plus as a platform, we’ve been treated to several series set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe over the past three years and there are more on the horizon.

There’s been a lot of entertaining Marvel Cinematic Universe content on TV, such as the Emmy-winning show WandaVision, its spinoff Agatha All Along, and others like Loki, Moon Knight, Hawkeye, She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, as well as the animated series What If…?.

I must admit, I’m not new to the excitement of seeing Marvel Comics characters grace our television screens. Over the years, both live-action and animated series featuring these iconic heroes have been a regular part of my entertainment diet.

Regrettably, it seems that one of the Marvel series on Disney and Disney Plus will not continue with a new season.

Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur cancelled after two seasons

It has been announced that Marvel’s animated series, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, will no longer be airing on Disney. Initially reported by an anonymous source through the DisneyToon social media, the news was later confirmed by director Samantha S. Lee who expressed her affection for the show and its team via a social media post, stating “I love this show and everyone involved… all the way to the moon and back… we created something exceptional.

The show centers around Luna Lafayette and her dinosaur companion, Devil Dinosaur, as depicted in Marvel Comics. Debuting in February 2023, it spanned 16 episodes until its end in May that same year. It then came back for a second round, premiering this February and continuing to air at present.

As a dedicated gamer, I gotta say, we ain’t seen the last of this series just yet! It might be on a midseason break right now, but trust me, it’s comin’ back strong with a fresh batch of episodes in 2025. That’s right, it’s gonna be its grand finale!

Originally, DisneyToon planned for the upcoming episodes as part of a third season. However, Disney decided against continuing the series. Consequently, these episodes will be appended to the end of season 2, extending the final season substantially beyond the length of the first one.

Five days after its initial airing on Disney, I found myself utterly captivated by “Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.” While it may not have been directly tied to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it certainly held a special place within the broader Marvel TV realm, resonating deeply with younger fans like myself.

Unfortunately, it’s cut short before its time, but luckily, it seems like it won’t leave us hanging with an unresolved cliffhanger.
