Marvel Studios and the online superhero shooter *Marvel Rivals* have announced a major partnership. *Marvel Rivals*, developed by NetEase Games, has already shown its appreciation for the Marvel Cinematic Universe since its release. However, up until now, their collaborations have been limited to cosmetic items – special outfits and appearances – and haven’t gone any further.
The popular team-based game *Marvel Rivals* is shaking things up with a brand new game mode based on the *Marvel Zombies* series from Disney+. This is the first time the game has collaborated with Marvel Studios, and the limited-time, player-versus-environment (PvE) mode will launch on October 23rd, just in time for Halloween.
The news was announced on social media by Rivals, along with a new trailer. The trailer featured Danny Koo, executive producer of Marvel Rivals, and Brad Winderbaum, head of streaming, television, and animation at Marvel Studios, who explained the new game mode.
“The first-ever PvE mode: Marvel Zombies is coming on Oct 23, 2025 UTC.
This new mode puts you and your team in a constant battle to survive against never-ending hordes of zombies.
Okay, so imagine this: the city is literally going up in flames, and hordes of infected are everywhere. You’re the last line of defense, tasked with holding them back. I just got a first look, and let me tell you, it’s intense! Keep an eye out for the official trailer dropping soon – you won’t want to miss it.
In the *Marvel Zombies* event, players will fight off hordes of zombie enemies, culminating in a final showdown against the formidable Queen of the Dead – Wanda Maximoff.
As a huge fan of both *Rivals* and Marvel, I’m really excited about this new collaboration – it’s by far the most extensive they’ve done together! We’ve seen *Rivals* incorporate some Marvel Cinematic Universe-inspired skins before, but this *Marvel Zombies* experience feels different. It’s not just a cosmetic addition; it’s a fully designed gameplay event, and that level of detail is amazing.
Marvel Rivals is now available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC. This free-to-play game from NetEase Games lets you play as iconic Marvel heroes and villains, battling against players from around the globe in player-versus-player combat.
The Possible Future of the MCU/Marvel Rivals Relationship?
As a Marvel fan, I’m really hoping this new game, *Marvel Rivals*, is the beginning of something special. It feels like a great partnership between the game developers and Marvel Studios, and I’m excited to see where they take it. Fingers crossed this is just the first of many collaborations!
It’s likely that *Rivals* will keep adding Marvel-themed outfits for players to buy. Offering costumes based on popular Marvel heroes fits well with the game’s free-to-play model.
This team-up for *Marvel Zombies* might be a sign of even closer connections between the different Marvel universes.
We’ve seen big Marvel events happen in games like *Fortnite*, and now that *Rivals* is officially part of Marvel, we might see more promotions like these happen there going forward.
Next year’s *Avengers: Doomsday* will take Marvel’s heroes on an adventure throughout the Multiverse. Marvel Studios might team up with the creators of *Rivals* again to create a special, unique experience based on the new film.
This new game mode could let teams of players battle Doctor Doom’s armies throughout the Marvel Multiverse. It would promote the upcoming movie and give players of *Rivals* another chance to experience the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a game.
