Marvel reportedly bringing back the one actor we thought would never return
As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in various worlds and universes, I can confidently say that Marvel Studios has masterfully crafted one of the most captivating and intricate universes ever created. The ability to bring together iconic characters from different timelines and dimensions is nothing short of magical.
Marvel Studios possesses an incredible ability, not literally shifting mountains, but figuratively speaking, they can accomplish any task they set their minds to. They have single-handedly created the most lucrative box office franchise ever, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which has raked in over $30 billion from its 34 films, and continues to thrive.
The ongoing Multiverse Saga in the Marvel Cinematic Universe keeps astonishing viewers, as it skillfully employs the multiverse concept to reprise iconic roles (such as Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, Patrick Stewart’s Professor X, and both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Men) and even bring about long-wished-for pairings (like John Krasinski as Reed Richards from the Fantastic Four), allowing these characters to engage with popular contemporaries within their respective storylines.
Experiencing a simultaneous blend of history, current events, and what’s yet to come feels like Marvel’s unique enchantment, demonstrating their knack for turning the implausible into reality. Previous attempts fell short, but recent whispers hint at another attempt. This upcoming endeavor seems particularly audacious as well.
Marvel rumored to be speaking with Nicolas Cage about Ghost Rider return
Based on reports from a trusted Marvel source, MyTimeToShineHello, there are ongoing talks between Marvel Studios and Nicolas Cage regarding his potential reprisal of Ghost Rider in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Known for his memorable portrayal of the character in past productions outside the MCU, fans have speculated that he could be among the many actors revisiting their roles as part of the Multiverse Saga. It seems that a return by Cage as Ghost Rider is something that’s still being considered.
In two movies released in 2007 (“Ghost Rider”) and 2011 (“The Spirit of Vengeance,” a sequel), Nicholas Cage played the Johnny Blaze version of the character. These films, though not acclaimed by critics, were commercially successful, particularly the first one, and have since garnered a dedicated fanbase, especially due to their role in introducing the character to broader audiences. As is common with his roles, Nicholas Cage’s passionate acting drew applause from fans.
Ever since then, there has been a strong desire for Nicolas Cage to reprise his role somehow. However, it appeared doubtful that this would happen within the MCU, as the opportunity almost presented itself (quite recently, indeed), but the planets never seemed to properly align for the character’s inclusion in the franchise.
In a conversation on Entertainment Weekly’s Awardist podcast, Ryan Reynolds shared that an initial script for this year’s Deadpool and Wolverine collaboration included cameos from Nicholas Cage’s Ghost Rider and Ben Affleck’s Daredevil. Unfortunately, these appearances didn’t materialize, but Reynolds expressed his desire to make Ghost Rider a part of the project. He even disclosed that he had discussions with Cage about it, saying, “We attempted to include him, but he wasn’t available… I would have loved him in the role.
It’s really thrilling to consider the possibility that Marvel is considering him for a future project, which could mean a return of this character. This would further underscore the infinite potential stories the Multiverse Saga has to offer. With whispers of a multiversal conflict potentially happening in either “Avengers: Doomsday” or “Avengers: Secret Wars,” there’s a good chance he might make an appearance in one or the other.
It’s quite ironic that Cage, who recently starred in another multiverse film, has gained a bit of a cult following from this role. Interestingly enough, in the 2023 movie The Flash, he reprised a character by using CGI to depict an alternate version of Superman, reminiscent of the 1990s film Superman Lives where he almost landed the lead role.
Is he set to do the same again in the MCU with Ghost Rider? We can certainly hope!
