Letitia Wright’s Shuri is stepping into the role again for Avengers: Doomsday later this year, following the heartbreaking loss of Chadwick Boseman. But it sounds like Marvel isn’t stopping there. They’re already planning for another Wakandan hero to emerge in the next Avengers films, and then, reportedly, take center stage in Black Panther 3. That film is currently slated to kick off Phase 7 of the MCU in February 2028, which feels like a ways off, but gives them plenty of time to build up the new hero. It’s a smart move, honoring Chadwick’s legacy while moving the story forward.

Marvel Studios is reportedly planning to cast a new Black Panther for the upcoming movie Avengers: Secret Wars, scheduled to release on December 17, 2027. According to scooper Daniel Richtman on Patreon, the studio has already begun meeting with potential actors for the role, with preparations for the film – the culmination of Phase 6 – starting this Spring.

Actor Aaron Pierre is reportedly being considered by Marvel Studios to play the next Black Panther. He’s known for his roles in Rebel Ridge and Mufassa: The Lion King, and is also set to star as John Stewart in HBO’s Lanterns, a new superhero series for James Gunn’s DC Universe.

Letitia Wright, who plays Shuri in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will be back for the 2027 film Secret Wars. This follows her appearance in this year’s Doomsday, and means she won’t be the only hero from Wakanda featured in the upcoming blockbuster.

Richtman had previously announced that a new Black Panther, and that it would be a male character, would first appear in the Doomsday comic. There was a lot of speculation that F1 star Damson Idris would play the role. Now, it’s uncertain if this is the same character Richtman is saying will be in Secret Wars, or if the original plan for Doomsday is still happening.

The actor chosen to play the new Black Panther will join an impressive lineup of Marvel heroes and villains in Avengers: Secret Wars, including Robert Downey Jr., Pedro Pascal, Anthony Mackie, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Tom Holland. The film is scheduled to be released on December 17, 2027, and will conclude Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Everything points to most of the action happening on Battleworld, which is this crazy place made up of the leftover pieces of destroyed universes, and ruled by none other than Doctor Doom – Robert Downey Jr. is going to be amazing! It seems like the movie will show us how a brand new universe might be built from all that chaos, and we could even get a first look at the heroes who will be shaping it.

It’s unlikely the next Black Panther will be the T’Challa fans remember. Instead, it will probably be an older version of his and Nakia’s son. However, this doesn’t mean Shuri is leaving the Marvel Cinematic Universe; she and the new Black Panther could potentially share the role in Black Panther 3.

It’s still unknown who will get the role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and many actors will likely be considered. While Aaron Pierre is a talented actor, his current work with the DC Universe makes him an unlikely candidate.
