Recent images from the upcoming Spider-Man movie show a fresh take on Tom Holland’s Spider-Man costume. Since debuting as the character in Captain America: Civil War over ten years ago, Holland has worn several different versions of the iconic suit.

Tom Holland’s Spider-Man has sported a variety of costumes throughout his appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. From his early, homemade suit and the first Stark Tech suit in Spider-Man: Homecoming, to the Iron Spider suit in the Avengers films and the black and red suits in Spider-Man: Far From Home, he’s consistently had multiple looks. In fact, almost every solo Spider-Man movie has featured at least two different suits, and the conclusion of his most recent film hints at yet another new costume to come.

The movie Spider-Man: No Way Home concluded with a glimpse of Tom Holland’s Peter Parker sporting a fresh red-and-blue Spider-Man suit as he swung through a snowy New York City. This suit was a callback to his original look in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it was unique because it wasn’t made with Stark Industries technology.

Fans will see Tom Holland back in the classic red-and-blue Spider-Man suit in the upcoming movie, Spider-Man: Brand New Day. While that suit appears to be the main one, a recent behind-the-scenes look at the film revealed a slightly different version – a winterized suit – appearing briefly at the 5-second mark of a new Marvel production video.

This isn’t the first time Peter Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has worn clothes over his Spider-Man suit – he famously wore his school blazer in Spider-Man: Homecoming. In Brand New Day, Spider-Man will be wearing a simpler superhero suit, without the high-tech additions usually provided by Stark Industries. Although Tom Holland’s Spider-Man could potentially get a new suit near the end of the Brand New Day storyline, it doesn’t seem very probable. Previously, Peter Parker’s suit upgrades were linked to his relationship with Tony Stark and access to Stark technology. Now that Tony is gone and everyone has forgotten his identity due to a memory spell, there’s less of a logical reason for him to receive a new suit.

The constant costume changes for Spider-Man in the movies are largely driven by merchandise. Each new suit provides an opportunity to sell new toys. We’ll probably continue to see variations of the classic red and blue suit – like the winter version with the hat and vest – because it allows Marvel to keep selling new toys while still featuring the same core costume.

While Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe might not be getting completely new suits all the time anymore, it’s expected that his costume will still have small changes and updates. It’s great to see the recent addition of a winter hat and vest, as this is a fun detail that’s often featured in the comics, especially in the Spider-Man: Brand New Day series.
