The X-Men are joining the Avengers in a new project, and Marvel made smart choices when designing their on-screen appearances. While live-action Marvel movies haven’t always perfectly matched the X-Men’s comic book looks, Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine did eventually wear his famous yellow suit—but not until many years later, and not in a movie focused on the X-Men as a team.
The X-Men movies made by Fox didn’t feel like the definitive take on characters like Cyclops and Jean Grey. That’s why the animated Marvel shows, especially the fantastic first season of X-Men ’97, are so thrilling. Animation has always been a great way to bring the X-Men to life, and that continues with the new Avengers project.
Marvel Has Revealed What New Avengers TV Show’s X-Men Look Like
Marvel’s cinematic universe is gearing up for a major event in 2026 with the release of Avengers: Doomsday. Although that film is expected to feature many actors who previously played X-Men characters from Fox – likely wearing costumes faithful to the comic books, similar to how Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine was reintroduced – another Avengers project has unexpectedly brought these characters into the MCU a year earlier.
LEGO Marvel Avengers: Strange Tails is a two-part animated special that premiered on Disney+ on November 14, 2025. The story centers on Hawkeye attempting to rescue the Avengers after a villain who loves cats takes control of their minds. Though not the main focus, several characters from the X-Men do appear and have a part in the plot.
Okay, so the movie kicks off with a huge battle – Magneto and his Brotherhood of Mutants going head-to-head with the Avengers! It was awesome seeing all the classic villain looks – Juggernaut in that iconic red suit and helmet, Sabretooth with his yellow and tan outfit, and Magneto rocking the red and purple. But then, the heroes show up, and it’s just as cool seeing X-Men like Wolverine, Nightcrawler, and Gambit in costumes that are straight out of the comics. It really felt like they brought the source material to life!
How The New Avengers TV Show’s X-Men Compare To Other Versions Of The Marvel Mutants?

The new Avengers TV show features a couple of live-action looks that closely resemble the X-Men’s designs, specifically from the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine movie. Hugh Jackman’s yellow and blue X-Men suit and Channing Tatum’s purple Gambit suit—complete with a brown coat—are accurately recreated from their LEGO animated special appearances.
Several animated series have showcased the iconic costumes of mutant heroes and villains, originally seen in LEGO Marvel Avengers: Strange Tails. Most recently, X-Men ’97 season one did this, featuring various classic X-Men outfits from different time periods for both the heroes and villains. The latest Avengers release pays tribute to the X-Men comics.
