The events of Captain America: Civil War saw the Avengers split over the Sokovia Accords, a global agreement meant to oversee superheroes. While that agreement was eventually canceled, the new Marvel series Wonder Man introduces a similar policy for managing people with superpowers. This new policy builds on the ideas behind the Sokovia Accords and other efforts to control or regulate superheroes.
After the destruction of Sokovia in Avengers: Age of Ultron – caused by Iron Man’s creation, Ultron – the Sokovia Accords were created. These Accords gave the United Nations the power to oversee and control individuals with superpowers. Essentially, anyone with enhanced abilities was required to register with their government for monitoring purposes.
A major disagreement over the Sokovia Accords caused Iron Man and Captain America to split the Avengers, which ultimately contributed to their loss in Avengers: Infinity War. When the Avengers came back together in Avengers: Endgame, the Accords were no longer relevant, and it was later shown in She-Hulk: Attorney At Law that they had been officially cancelled.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is introducing a new way to control people with superpowers in its next movie, and this could significantly change the direction of the franchise going forward.
The Doorman Clause Bans Super Powers In In The MCU’s Hollywood

Recent promotional material for the upcoming Marvel series Wonder Man has introduced a fictional “Doorman Clause.” This clause, presented as a new Hollywood policy, jokingly requires actors to confirm they don’t have any superpowers. The promotion includes a mock magazine cover announcing a ban on superpowers on set, all tied to this “Doorman Clause.”
The Doorman Clause is different from the Sokovia Accords. While the Accords focused on registering and regulating superheroes like the Avengers, the Doorman Clause completely prohibits people with superpowers from appearing in movies and TV shows within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This ban is likely to be a major part of the upcoming story in the Wonder Man series, and it could significantly impact the future of the entire franchise.

Okay, so the new ‘Doorman Clause’ thing in the MCU feels like more than just a Hollywood issue – it’s building towards a bigger crackdown on anyone with powers. We really saw this take shape in the finale of ‘Daredevil: Born Again,’ where Mayor Fisk made it crystal clear: vigilantes are not welcome in New York City, and he’s forming a task force to enforce that. This isn’t just setting up another showdown between Daredevil and Fisk; it’s creating a real wave of public distrust and opposition towards anyone operating outside the law with superpowers. It feels like a major shift in the MCU landscape.
The introduction of organizations like the AVTF in New York and the Doorman Clause in Hollywood shows that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is increasingly depicting discrimination against people with superpowers. This development naturally leads to the potential introduction of the X-Men, whose stories often center around mutants facing prejudice because of their differences. Marvel is already establishing this theme of prejudice within the MCU through shows like Wonder Man and Daredevil: Born Again.
While Marvel Studios hasn’t announced any specific X-Men movies yet, Kevin Feige has revealed that Jake Schreier, the director of Thunderbolts, will direct an X-Men film planned for release after Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027. Many expect the next major phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, starting after Secret Wars, to heavily feature mutants and the X-Men.
Marvel and the Marvel Cinematic Universe often hint at future storylines well in advance, so it’s not surprising we’re starting to see changes that could explain why mutants might be feared or targeted. The ‘Doorman Clause’ mentioned in the show Wonder Man is the newest clue suggesting a connection to the X-Men, and it likely won’t be the last hint we see.
