The hit movie Avengers: Endgame is returning to theaters this September before the premiere of Avengers: Doomsday. However, it won’t be the same version fans remember. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige recently announced that the re-release will include “new surprises” that will actually alter the film.
When Avengers: Endgame was re-released, many fans assumed the extra footage would be a new deleted scene added after the credits, similar to what Marvel did with a re-release of the film in June 2019. That’s what most people were expecting.
Director Joe Russo has confirmed the re-release of Avengers: Endgame will include footage from the “Doomsday” storyline, which he describes as an important story connecting to the upcoming Avengers film.

He explained at the Sands Film Festival (according to Deadline) that the film’s success allows them to connect the stories of Endgame and Doomsday in a new and interesting way, and even re-release it.
It’s rare to get a second chance to revisit a story, as it can be expensive. That’s why we’re so excited to expand on the world of Doomsday by connecting it to Endgame. It allows us to continue the journeys of characters we’ve developed and care about over many years, and that’s a special opportunity.

He explained that the upcoming footage will build anticipation for Avengers: Doomsday, which releases in December. Now, Marvel fans are eager to guess what the footage might reveal.
Since this is newly released footage, it’s probably not going to change the meaning of that metal clanking sound from the Avengers: Endgame credits. It’s unlikely they’ll rewrite it to be about Doctor Doom making his mask instead of a reference to the original Iron Man movie.
Now that Chris Evans is reprising his role as Steve Rogers, the new footage will likely focus on him. We might see him returning the Time Stones to their proper places in the timeline, potentially solving the puzzle of how to return the Soul Stone, considering the sacrifice required to obtain it.

Considering Kevin Feige announced the Doomsday trailer at CinemaCon by saying it continues the story right after Avengers: Endgame, it seems like a direct sequel, even though many TV shows and movies have been released in the seven years since.
Because the main villain has shifted from the original plan for the Multiverse Saga (Kang), a quick fix to the storyline is needed. Changing a detail in Avengers: Endgame seems like the most straightforward solution. This doesn’t mean everything that’s happened in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since then will be erased; the upcoming Doomsday event will bring back familiar characters, including Shang-Chi and Yelena, among others.
Basically, you probably don’t need to rewatch all of Phases 4 and 5 before watching Avengers: Doomsday this Christmas. But it looks like you do need to catch the re-release of Avengers: Endgame first.
Avengers: Endgame will be back in theaters on September 25th, and Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to premiere on December 18th.
