Marvel ‘in talks with major Hollywood director’ to mastermind the hotly-anticipated X-Men reboot – amid exciting news about its release date

It’s rumored that Jake Schreier, the creative force behind Thunderbolts, is set to take charge as director for Marvel’s eagerly awaited remake of The X-Men.

Following the financial challenges faced by movies like Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants around five years back, it seems that the X-Men have not resurfaced on screen just yet.

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news! It seems our favorite X-Men characters like Professor X, Cyclops, and Iceman might make their grand return to the big screen in 2028. Rumors are swirling about a new movie that could bring these iconic figures back into our lives once more.

According to Variety, it appears that Marvel has chosen Jake, aged 43, to lead their franchise into the future. They are reportedly negotiating a contract to secure his services.

Despite reports suggesting that discussions are merely at a preliminary level, it’s believed that the director has declined other prospects following Marvel’s expressed interest.

Besides starting off in the Marvel universe with Thunderbolts, Jake is also recognized for his involvement in adapting John Green’s novel, Paper Towns, featuring Cara Delevingne, as well as the 2021 film Robot and Frank.

TopMob has contacted Jake’s representatives for comment.

It was being talked about that Ryan Coogler, the director of Black Panther, might take on a superhero film, but he clarified this rumor in an interview with Metro.

As for the intriguing proposition of helming the upcoming movie, I humbly decline and graciously pass the baton to the talented Jake Schreier.

Speaking about the future of Marvel, its president, Kevin Feige, aged 52, expressed his joy and fulfillment seeing the movies back in action, stating it as if his dreams have finally materialized.

He shared that we can expect the storyline to carry on in our upcoming films, featuring some X-Men characters you may already be familiar with.

Immediately following this event, the narrative of Secret Wars paves the way for a fresh era of mutants and the X-Men.

After that incident, Secret Wars sets the stage for a new epoch in the lives of mutants and the X-Men.

‘Again, it’s one of those dreams come true. We finally have the X-Men back.’

It is said that Jake has risen to the top of Marvel’s desired list for a director following the success of Thunderbolts, which received some of the best reviews they have had in recent years.

(*Note: Thunderbolts refers to a fictional superhero team appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics.)

Despite a relatively sluggish start at the box office, earning $76 million for its 2025 release, the company remains optimistic about the film’s potential commercial success due to the buzz generated by the comeback of the X-Men.

It seems logical, considering Marvel’s history of giving large projects to directors who work within their own studio, that they would choose to keep the production of the next X-Men film in-house.

Following their success in planning the Captain America sequels, Anthony and Joseph Russo were given the responsibility of directing Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

More recently, Matt Shakman has been given the task of directing The Fantastic Four: First Steps, following his work on WandaVision.

The X-Men film series commenced during the 1990s, starting off with a trilogy that included X-Men released in 2000, followed by X2 in 2003, and then X-Men: The Last Stand, which was out in 2006.

The first three X-Men movies were launched in the 1990s, with the initial installment being X-Men (2000), followed by X2 (2003) and finally X-Men: The Last Stand in 2006.

Due to their extraordinary success, more movies were produced, eventually leading to the release of three sequels or offshoots over time.

After them, there were three Wolverine films released, along with two Deadpool movies starring Ryan Reynolds. These films garnered significant commercial success, among other successful releases.

2019 marked the occasion when Marvel reclaimed the control over the X-Men series following Disney’s purchase of Fox. This event led to several planned movies being scrapped as they transitioned towards a fresh approach for the film productions.

Marvel chose to revise a movie that was already being produced, resulting in the release of Deadpool and Wolverine in 2024.
