Marvel finally makes the X-Men announcement we've been hoping for

As a gamer who grew up during the golden age of X-Men media, I can confidently say that this news has me more excited than Wolverine unsheathing his adamantium claws! The anticipation for the mutants to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been like waiting for Magneto to finally snap and pull the Sentinels apart.

The X-Men are undeniably one of the most influential teams to ever appear on any screen. Whether you’ve enjoyed the original Fox X-Men films, followed the groundbreaking animated series in the ’90s, or delved into the source comics, the appeal of the X-Men has proven timeless. At one point, they were even more popular than The Avengers, as mutants were already among the most renowned Marvel characters before the Marvel Cinematic Universe took shape.

But here’s the thing: The MCU does exist now, and fans have been longing for the X-Men to take part in it. And ever since the Disney / Fox merger in 2019, the universe has been slowly setting the stage for that to happen. We have gotten crumbs, nods, and references along the way, with two of the biggest acknowledgements coming earlier this year. X-Men ’97 marked the first Marvel Studios produced X-Men project, while the inclusion of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in Deadpool and Wolverine allowed for the MCU to officially acknowledge that the X-Men existed… setting the table for them to exist again in the MCU.

As a devoted X-Men fan, I can’t help but feel exhilarated knowing that Kevin Feige himself has confirmed their presence in the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This long-awaited revelation has me buzzing with anticipation for what’s to come!

The end of the Multiverse Saga will pave the way for The Age of Mutants

At a recent virtual event held by Disney APAC in Singapore, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige shared exciting insights about the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s future plans, hinting at the highly anticipated teams of heroes: The Fantastic Four (set to star in their own film next year) and the X-Men.

Secret Wars, we’ll enter an era known as the Age of the Mutants.

…in our next few movies with some X-Men players that you might recognize. Right after that, the whole story of Secret Wars really leads us into a new age of mutants and of the X-Men. Again, [it’s] one of those dreams come true. We finally have the X-Men back.

Kevin Feige

The movie “Avengers: Secret Wars” signifies the conclusion of the Multiverse Storyline. Fans eagerly await a grand multiversal conflict, similar to the one that concluded the Infinity Saga in “Avengers: Endgame”. If this is indeed the case, it promises to be spectacular. This scenario also offers Marvel an excellent chance to introduce iconic X-Men characters and reacquaint MCU viewers with the formidable X-Men group, often known as the Mighty Mutants.

As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but share my excitement about the latest developments in the Marvel Cinematic Universe! Previously, Feige has casually mentioned that the post-Multiverse Saga chapter could be called the Mutants Era. However, fans have been buzzing with speculation, suggesting it might actually become known as “The Mutans Saga”.

The franchise has been preparing for the arrival of the X-Men since the start of the Multiverse Saga. In shows like Ms. Marvel, snippets of the classic X-Men theme were played when it was revealed that the main character was a mutant. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’s Namor was presented as the world’s first mutant, and Professor X, portrayed by Patrick Stewart, made an appearance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. This subtle introduction allowed the franchise to introduce the X-Men softly, while the arrival of Wolverine in Deadpool and Wolverine can be considered a more direct or “hard” launch. However, it’s worth noting that a standalone X-Men movie is currently being developed for a full-fledged debut.

Get ready, the X-Men are coming!
