Marvel finally makes the Loki announcement we've been waiting for

As a long-time Marvel enthusiast and collector who has painstakingly amassed a vast array of physical media from the MCU, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon hearing that Loki season 2 will be gracing our shelves in 4K UHD Blu-Ray. It’s like Christmas came early for us die-hard fans!

Once Marvel Studios decided to broaden the Marvel Cinematic Universe by producing various series on Disney Plus, it opened up a chance to highlight some cherished – yet often overlooked – characters from the MCU. It seemed that Marvel shared this sentiment, as popular figures like Wanda Maximoff, Vision, Bucky Barnes, Sam Wilson, Hawkeye, and Nick Fury all received their time in the spotlight. Needless to say, even Loki got his turn under the limelight too.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Tom Hiddleston once again took on the cunning role of the trickster Loki. The series, titled Loki, delved into the God of Mischief’s endeavors to safeguard the sacred timeline from impending dangers. While the first season was well-received, the second season left viewers in awe as Loki and the Time Variance Authority worked together to prevent the Temporal Loom from causing an explosion.

After the series finale, there hasn’t been much news about Loki, the show itself, or whether it will become accessible to fans without a Disney Plus subscription. However, Marvel has now clarified one aspect that is sure to bring joy to numerous collectors.

Loki season 2 is getting a 4K UHD release

Delight, enthusiasts of physical media! Marvel Studios has unveiled that Loki season 2 will make its debut on 4K UHD Blu-Ray for the first time on December 3, 2024. The official announcement, originating from Marvel.com, confirms that it will be encased in a unique collector’s Steelbook casing and include exclusive concept art cards along with never-before-seen bonus content.

If you’re excited about expanding your Marvel Cinematic Universe collection on Disney Plus, you’ll be delighted to know that there will be more than just one Marvel Studios release that day! The first season of the series “Hawkeye” is also set for its physical release on December 3.

Disney Plus is set to launch a new collection of MCU series on physical media, coinciding with the premiere of Star Wars shows like “The Mandalorian” season 3 and “Ahsoka” season 1. This grouping represents the third set of Marvel Studios series available in 4K UHD, following “WandaVision,” “Loki” season 1, “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” and “Moon Knight” season 1.

In October through December 2023, Loki season 2 became available on Disney Plus, garnering praise from both fans and critics. Although the initial season was highly popular, some viewers later noted issues with its rhythm, dialogue, and television structure, finding that it functioned more like a film than a six-part series. Conversely, the second season is generally recognized as one of the Multiverse Saga’s peak accomplishments.

It’s not just optimism, but more like anticipation bordering on certainty that fans held for the second season to be released physically. Now, they have the opportunity to add it to their Marvel Cinematic Universe collection, and with the God of Stories set to return, the excitement is palpable.

Although the show “Loki” may not come back for a third season (since its ending was quite conclusive), there are whispers that Tom Hiddleston could reprise his role in upcoming movies like “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars.” Given how crucial Loki was to the Multiverse Saga, it wouldn’t shock us a bit. In fact, Marvel Cinematic Universe enthusiasts are crossing their fingers, hoping that this becomes a reality.

As the 4K UHD version is about to launch, you’ll have ample time to rewatch Season 2 before speculating on when Loki might make his comeback.
