Marvel fans all agree on one of the MCU’s biggest mistakes

Discussions among Marvel enthusiasts have centered on the most significant blunders in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with a particular incident emerging as the apparent favorite.

A significant number of enthusiasts concurred that among the Universe’s low points, the Disney+ mini-series titled “Secret Invasion” stands out. This series draws inspiration from the 2008 Marvel comic book storyline with an identical title.

In 2023, a six-episode series was launched featuring Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury. In this storyline, Fury embarks on a solo mission apart from his usual Avengers comrades, engaging in a fight to protect Earth from an incoming threat posed by the Skrulls who are trying to infiltrate our planet.

On his journey, he encounters G’iah (Emilia Clarke), MI6 agent Sonya Falsworth (Olivia Colman), Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders), and Everett K. Ross (Martin Freeman). As he does so, he must confront Gravik (Kingsley Ben-Adir), the leader of the Skrull Resistance.

In contrast, not every character stays deeply entwined within the narrative for extended periods. Regrettably, Maria Hill, who holds the positions of Commander and Deputy Director at SHIELD, met her end in the initial episode itself, causing a wave of dismay among viewers.

As a gamer putting forth my thoughts, I can’t help but express my disappointment: “I can’t stand that they offed Maria Hill.” Another user chimed in with a similar sentiment: “What a wasted opportunity to flesh out her character and delve deeper into who she is. They did it for shock value and motivation. Both the character and actress deserved a better send-off.

Another individual concurred, commenting: “I dislike that they took her life without giving her the chance to truly embody Maria Hill. She was steadfastly loyal throughout, I wished for a moment where she would despise superheroes, become a real jerk, seize control of SHIELD as soon as Nick Fury disappears, and misuse her power right away with a chuckle.

A different spectator added their thoughts: “Secret Invasion should have wrapped up Fury’s narrative and handed the directing role to Hill, as the plot held tremendous promise…

Previously mentioned as a regrettable scene in the series, Digital Spy pointed out upon its premiere that Maria Hill, who had been consistently underused in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), was unjustifiably killed off.

Though she possesses all the traits needed for an outstanding, powerfully effective female agent, it seems she is frequently overshadowed by others, even as Fury’s presumed second-in-command.

The Secret Invasion offered a chance to delve more into her capabilities – given that it’s an espionage tale, the circumstances for exploration could hardly be superior.

Secret Invasion is streaming now on Disney+.
