Marvel Exec Promises Thunderbolts Will Skip Multiverse and Go Back to “Old School” MCU

One of Marvel’s high-ranking executives offered a note for fans who feel slightly overwhelmed by the frequent use of the Multiverse in recent productions. Although the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is nearing the end of the so-called Multiverse Saga, some dedicated viewers are eagerly awaiting a more earthbound movie release from the series.

In a shift from their recent cinema releases like “Captain America: Brave New World”, “Deadpool & Wolverine”, and “The Marvels”, the upcoming Marvel Studios film, titled “Thunderbolts*“, will not delve into the concept of a greater multiverse within its narrative.

At a grand unveiling of the movie “Thunderbolts” held at Cineworld, Leicester Square in London, UK, Brian Chapek, an executive producer from Marvel Studios, revealed this news to the HeyUGuys YouTube team.

Given the surge of movies featuring Multiversal and cosmic perils, Chapek pondered Marvel’s intention to scale things down to a more relatable human level with _Thunderbolts_. Essentially, it offered an opportunity to assemble and unify these misfits.

Absolutely! The Marvel Cinematic Universe has certainly expanded to encompass Multiverses and cosmic threats. In creating a Thunderbolts movie, our aim was to shift focus back towards everyday issues faced by characters on a more personal level. This film provides an excellent platform for bringing together these misfits and exploring their individual struggles.

Later, Chapek spoke to the vast ensemble gathered for the production of “Thunderbolts*“. He shared his sentiment that his role was made simpler because each actor was exceptionally talented, saying it was a joy to work with them as they all excelled in their respective roles. Reflecting on the core cast who had previously appeared in different parts of the universe through various franchises, he expressed delight at witnessing them collaborate and become something even more impressive: a united team.

Working with such fantastic actors really simplifies my job. They breathed life into these characters in ways I couldn’t have imagined! It was a joy to combine talents from different franchises, creating an unusual blend, if you will. These actors, who were once overlooked or marginalized, now form a cohesive group that surpasses their individual roles.

The film titled “Thunderbolts” concludes Phase 5 and is the initial Marvel Cinematic Universe production without any reference to the Multiverse, since 2023.

The movie named “Thunderbolts” wraps up Phase 5 and it’s the first MCU film post-2023 that doesn’t delve into the concept of the Multiverse.

Lately, the post-credit sequence in “Captain America: Brave New World” hinted at the Leader foreshadowing a menacing extraterrestrial danger for Sam Wilson. Prior to that, “Deadpool & Wolverine” delved deeply into the concept of the multiverse, traversing diverse realms and temporal dimensions to amass its extensive cast.

In the end, the 2023 film “The Marvels” saw Monica Rambeau compelled to seal a spatial rift, inadvertently trapping herself in an alternate dimension. This unique situation led to an encounter with a different version of her mother, Maria Rambeau, and the unexpected reappearance of Dr. Hank McCoy, famously known as Beast, portrayed by Kelsey Grammer.

At present, Marvel is gearing up for the launch of the upcoming film titled “Thunderbolts“. This movie showcases a group made up of around six antiheroes or villains, with Yelena Belova (portrayed by Florence Pugh) and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) serving as leaders. In addition to several other complex characters from previous Marvel Cinematic Universe projects, they will collaborate to take down Lewis Pullman’s Sentry, one of the strongest antagonists in Marvel lore.

Thunderbolts* is lined up to debut in theaters everywhere on Friday, May 2.

Will Thunderbolts* Benefit by Avoiding the Multiverse?

Instead of the multiverse-focused tales in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) being so exhilarating for some fans, they often appreciate it more when the series returns to its earthbound beginnings. Characters such as Iron Man and Captain America made the narrative seem more relatable and human-centric before the cosmic episodes steered the MCU towards a wilder, less grounded path.

It’s great news that early responses to “Thunderbolts*” suggest another significant triumph for the MCU, largely due to its grounded approach. Some critics have even commented that it feels “similar to the old Marvel” while also commending it for being more relatable and earthbound.

It’s not surprising that the Marvel Cinematic Universe, immersed in its Multiverse Storyline, has seen many of its recent movies deliver on their grand promises. Moreover, the upcoming “Thunderbolts” movie marks the end of Phase 5, with the final phase expected to wrap up the saga by releasing several films that weave the multiverse into their narratives.

At present, it appears that Marvel is making a shrewd choice by focusing on street-level stories, offering weary fans a momentary respite before their various universes intertwine and clash.
