Marvel delays new Blade movie yet again, subs in Predator: Badlands

As a fan who has been following Marvel’s journey since the early 2000s, I can’t help but feel like the rollercoaster of anticipation and disappointment with the Blade reboot is starting to feel a lot like the old saying about watching paint dry. It seems that every time we get a glimpse of hope, something happens to delay it further. But hey, at least they’re not making us wait until November 2025 for a Predator movie instead!

In 2019, Marvel initially unveiled plans to produce a new movie featuring Blade, the vampire-slaying character half-vampire character previously portrayed by Wesley Snipes in a series of films from 1998 to 2004. At that time, Marvel was experimenting with various ideas to keep audiences engaged. Now, five years later, Blade has emerged as an emblematic example of the complexities that characterize the current Marvel cinematic universe. The film’s release has been repeatedly postponed and several directors have been attached to the project, including Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange. Mahershala Ali remains committed to playing the titular role, while Mia Goth is set to portray the supervillain Lilith. However, with all these changes, it’s uncertain if we will ever get to witness them on screen.

It appears that the release date for “Blade” has been moved from its initial plan on November 7, 2025, as announced by Deadline. Currently, there’s no sign of the movie in Disney’s schedule, but they have reserved three new dates (February 18, 2028, May 5, 2028 and November 10, 2028) for unspecified projects. It’s possible that “Blade” might be scheduled for one of those dates, but it could be shifted again in the future.

Disney is not denying fans their excitement for a new Blade movie on November 7, 2025; instead, it’s allocating that date to Predator: Badlands, a fresh Predator film directed by Dan Trachtenberg. Notably, Trachtenberg was at the helm of the highly praised Predator film Prey, which initially premiered on Hulu but proved successful enough for a theater release. It’s heartening to learn that the sequel will be gracing the big screen as well.

The storyline of “Prey” was established in the 1700s; the extraterrestrial hunter known as the Predator confronted members of the Comanche tribe. Although details are scant, it appears that the upcoming movie “Predator: Badlands” might shift events to contemporary or futuristic times, and could feature Elle Fanning in a dual role as sisters with contrasting objectives. One sister may seek to combat the Predator while the other might find him intriguing instead.

There’s also chatter about a straight-up follow-up to the game “Prey”, but let’s tackle one issue at a time. Meanwhile, Marvel has a full plate of movies lined up for 2025 without “Blade”. Currently, “Captain America: New World Order”, “Thunderbolts”, and “The Fantastic Four: First Footsteps” are all set to release next year.
