Marvel confirms the MCU's next era after the Multiverse Saga - and it's a big one

As a long-time Marvel fan and avid gamer, I can’t help but be excited about the latest developments in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The Infinity Saga was a remarkable achievement that brought together some of the biggest heroes on the silver screen to take down one of cinema’s greatest threats. The long-term storytelling and interconnected nature of the movies were truly groundbreaking, and I’ve been hooked since the very beginning.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe stands out among franchises for its ability to tell intricate stories over a long period. Marvel Studios’ impressive machine wove one continuous narrative throughout 23 films, bringing together iconic superheroes to face an unprecedented cinematic menace. Indeed, the Infinity Saga was a massive success financially and critically, leaving an indelible mark on Hollywood as a testament to filmmaking, superhero stories, and the Avengers’ teamwork at its finest.

The tale didn’t end then, however, as the series initiated a fresh narrative with Phase Four. Not only films, but television entered the picture as well through Disney Plus. This is known as the Multiverse Saga, an endeavor of unprecedented scale for the MCU, given its extensive reach across numerous titles and countless distinct universes. Witnessing it unfold has been a joy, as it explores uncharted territory for the franchise, incorporating actors from previous Marvel films that don’t align with the MCU timeline.

With half of the Avengers saga behind us and the upcoming major films leading us to the climax of Phase Six and the Multiverse Saga, fans are eagerly wondering what’s next. It seems that Kevin Feige may have given us a hint.

Kevin Feige confirms the Mutants Era is coming to the MCU

In a recent conversation with The Playlist, Kevin Feige, head of Marvel Studios, announced that the MCU is preparing to introduce the era of Mutants. This could signify the upcoming narrative arc for the franchise. Feige shared that they plan to explore this universe more in depth as it’s an unexplored territory for Marvel Studios so far.

…now that we have characters from the ‘X-Men’ world, the Mutants—we haven’t had access to before… So, this is the beginning of that, and every [movie] post ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ will be the Mutant era coming into the MCU.

Feige has previously mentioned that the upcoming film “Deadpool and Wolverine” will introduce the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) to the world of mutants. These latest comments imply that this will be a frequent occurrence, signaling a prolonged integration of mutants into the MCU. With several mutant characters already appearing in recent years, it seems the studio is preparing for a more significant presence.

As the Multiverse Saga nears its conclusion, Feige’s remarks hint towards “The Mutants Saga” as the next major storyline for the MCU. This idea aligns well since an “X-Men” film is underway at Marvel Studios, and it’s unlikely to release before Phase Six ends. Consequently, this upcoming production is expected to significantly influence “The Mutants Saga,” as there are no more prominent mutant characters in the universe than Marvel’s strongest mutant team.

In the expansive storyline of the Multiverse Saga, hints about mutants have emerged consistently. Notably, Namor from “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” is considered the first mutant, while Kamala Khan in “Ms. Marvel” was the initial modern character and the franchise’s first to display mutant abilities. The multidimensional nature of the current plot has fostered the progression of the mutants’ narrative. This includes Professor Xavier, portrayed by Patrick Stewart once more from the X-Men series in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.” Additionally, Kelsey Grammer reappears as Beast in “The Marvels,” joined by Lashana Lynch as a variant of Binary. Most recently, Hugh Jackman returns to portray a fresh take on Wolverine in “Deadpool and Wolverine.”

If the Mutants Saga is indeed the next instalment for the MCU, it’s a smart move. The X-Men are beloved Marvel characters, and fans have eagerly anticipated their inclusion in the MCU. With some criticism levied at the studio regarding certain decisions in the Multiverse Saga, introducing mutants into a prolonged narrative would significantly help to reconnect with the fanbase, rekindling interest from old fans and attracting a vast number of new supporters.

If the Mutants Era is coming soon, the only appropriate question is: “How soon?”
