As a huge Marvel fan, I’m really encouraged by some recent news! It sounds like Marvel might actually be learning from its early Disney+ shows. Honestly, a lot of those first limited series – like *Moon Knight* and *Secret Invasion* – felt like they just stretched a movie plot into six parts. Great actors, but the stories felt really rushed. But now, they seem to be aiming for proper, ongoing TV shows, and *Daredevil: Born Again* is leading the charge. It’s going to be released yearly, with episodes that have some real breathing room, and get this – it’s *already* been renewed for Season 3! That’s a first for a live-action Marvel show on Disney+, and it gives me a lot of hope for the future of the MCU on streaming.
At New York Comic-Con, Brad Winderbaum, head of Marvel Television and Animation, explained that Marvel is now focusing on creating shows for Disney+ that can last for many seasons. He also hinted that two shows that haven’t been officially renewed for a second season could still come back – if certain conditions are met.
When asked if *Wonder Man* was initially planned as a single season or something that could continue for multiple seasons, Kevin Feige’s right-hand man, Brad Winderbaum, explained that the first Disney+ Marvel series were designed to simply connect the movies and TV shows. He said making those shows for more than one season proved “really expensive” and therefore wasn’t often done.
Disney+ is in a new phase. Initially, their shows were designed as short, self-contained stories with characters appearing in both films and series. However, continuing those shows beyond the first season proved difficult and costly due to the way the original agreements were structured.
He explained that this weakness led them to focus on creating shows designed to run for several seasons, with some new series planned to be released every year for the foreseeable future.
We began creating shows designed to run for several seasons. For example, we’ve approved a third season of *Daredevil* that will be released each year. Similarly, *X-Men ’97* and *Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man* are planned for annual releases over multiple years.
Marvel Television is now focusing on shows that last for multiple seasons. However, some shows were affected by this change in plans, and might get a second season if they attract enough viewers, according to Winderbaum.
The executive mentioned that *Marvel Zombies* and *Wonder Man* are Disney+ shows that might get another season, but that will depend on how many people watch them.
Some shows are still up in the air, and it’s too early to say if they’ll continue. For example, both *Marvel Zombies* and *Wonder Man* could get a second season, but that depends on how many people tune in to watch.
We’ve heard from sources that Marvel Studios is happy with how well *Zombies* is doing and is thinking about making more stories for Disney+.
Even though there’s possibility for a second season of *Wonder Man*, Marvel’s Kevin Feige emphasized that the first season (now debuting in January) is a complete and satisfying story on its own, though it might still leave viewers wanting more.
Even if this is the only *Wonder Man* story ever told, it’s a truly beautiful work. However, I expect readers will be eager for more when they finish it, and I’m hoping that happens.
As a big Marvel fan, I’ve noticed a really smart shift in how they’re making their Disney+ shows. They used to bring in head writers who’d lay the groundwork, but then hand things off to directors to actually *make* the episodes. Now, they’re hiring showrunners – people who stay involved from start to finish, overseeing the whole creative process. It feels like this will give the shows a more consistent vision, which I’m really excited about!
Marvel Is Eyeing a Battle for Season 2 Renewal at Disney+
Marvel Studios used to announce many new Disney+ shows at once, often five or six in development. Now, they seem to be focusing on creating a smaller number of high-quality live-action and animated series and releasing new seasons of those shows every year.
Popular Marvel characters like Daredevil, Spider-Man, Loki, and the X-Men have helped their Disney+ shows get renewed for a second season even before the first season has aired. However, newer shows featuring lesser-known characters, such as *Wonder Man*, *Vision Quest*, and *Marvel Zombies*, will need to demonstrate strong audience numbers, positive feedback, and clear demand for more episodes to earn a renewal.
With its immense popularity, *Marvel Zombies* is likely to be renewed for a second season. However, it could be a while before new episodes arrive. Development hasn’t started yet, and another animated Marvel series needs to finish airing to make room in the schedule.
We probably won’t know what happens with Wonder Man until the show airs next year, and its success will likely determine if it continues. According to insider DanielRPK, Vision Quest might also get another season, depending on how well it performs.
Disney CEO Bob Iger has stated that Marvel will probably only release around two TV series each year from now on. Since the new season of *Daredevil: Born Again* is planned to run until at least 2027, there might only be space for one other new series to be developed.
The future is open for a new project by 2027, and both *Wonder Man* and *Vision Quest* are strong possibilities for a return. Marvel could also bring back one of its existing limited series for a second season, with Jeremy Renner hinting that *Hawkeye* might come back at some point.
Marvel Studios might decide to create a different new series, and reports suggest they’re actively developing a show similar to the Young Avengers, potentially called *Champions*.
