Martine McCutcheon, 49, admits she was left ‘concerned, bamboozled and lacking confidence’ due to her ageing skin –  and says she ‘aged 10 years overnight’ after hitting perimenopause

Martine McCutcheon has spoken candidly about her ageing skin.

The actress, known for her role in Love Actually, recently shared on Instagram about how her feelings towards her skin have changed. She admitted she felt worried and insecure about it.

I have to admit, I was so confused trying to find something to help with my skin! There are just so many products out there, it was overwhelming. I remember reading about this actress, who first became famous on EastEnders years ago, and she felt exactly the same way. She said she was totally ‘bamboozled’ by it all until she found Elavate Collagen. What really grabbed her – and me! – was that it comes in a hot chocolate form, which is a much easier and tastier way to get your collagen.

I’ve been following Martine for a while now, and she recently shared something really personal. She explained that about a year and a half ago, she started noticing changes with her skin that were deeply worrying. As someone who works in the public eye, it really started to affect her confidence, and she was understandably concerned about how it might impact her work.

Having worked with so many talented beauty professionals, I thought I had a good understanding of how to avoid those issues as much as possible…

I don’t mind getting older, but I started to feel self-conscious because I always looked so tired, and it was becoming difficult to look refreshed.

As someone who’s spent years studying skincare, I’ve learned something surprising: we really underestimate how much our skin changes as we get older. It’s shocking, but collagen production starts to decline as early as your mid-twenties! I didn’t fully grasp just how significant that drop is until recently, and it’s a key reason why proactive skincare is so important.

I was really surprised, honestly. It’s such a simple idea, and there’s so much of it already out there. I just didn’t notice it amidst all the hype, and that frustrated me.

‘So in short I realised that from the age of 25 you start to lose 1% of your collagen…

Looking back, I never really thought about skin changes starting so early – when you’re younger, you just don’t pay attention to things like that! But now that I’m entering perimenopause, it all makes sense. They say you can lose up to 30% of your collagen around this time, and honestly, it’s shocking! It feels like you can literally wake up one morning and see a decade added to your face overnight. It’s a real eye-opener!

Martine and her ex-husband, Jack McManus, divorced last year after being married for 13 years. They have a 10-year-old son named Rafferty.

Okay, so she finally talked about it! It’s so real of her to admit that being a mom has totally changed her skin. Honestly, juggling work, being a mum 24/7, and just…life! All that stress and running around? It’s bound to show, you know? I feel so seen because I’m dealing with the same thing, and it’s amazing she’s being so open about it.

I initially thought getting a collagen supplement would be simple, but I quickly realized it wasn’t. When I started researching online, I found everyone had a different opinion about them.

I was going back and forth, unsure what I even wanted. It was really confusing. I just wanted to feel like myself again. Then, a friend who works in the industry and always looks great, told me that Elevate had a special type of collagen – everything you need, all in a hot chocolate drink.

She wrote in the video’s caption that about a year and a half ago, she noticed her skin losing its elasticity and was confused about the sudden change.

I learned that we can lose more than 30% of our collagen within the first five years of menopause, which explained a lot to me.

I wasn’t sure about collagen initially, but a friend suggested trying Elavate’s Multi-Collagen Superblend, and I’m really happy I did!

I’ve been using this product for a few months, and I’ve noticed my skin is much more radiant and healthy. It’s become a relaxing part of my nighttime routine, and it really helps me feel like myself again.

Martine turned up the heat on Instagram in September with a revealing throwback photo. The picture showed her looking stunning in high-waisted black bottoms, playfully covering herself with her phone.

Martine shared an old photo of herself, playfully posing and leaning against a wall, with a caption saying she’s dreaming of sunshine and the beach, and needs some Vitamin D.

In October 2024, Martine announced her separation from her husband, singer Jack, age 41. Just eleven months later, the Daily Mail reported that Martine had filed for bankruptcy.

The actress known for her role in the hit film Love Actually recently filed for bankruptcy due to owing money to a financial institution, according to public records.
