Martin Henderson addresses possible Grey’s Anatomy return

As a passionate fan who has witnessed the highs and lows of Grey’s Anatomy since its very first episode, I can’t help but feel a glimmer of hope at Martin Henderson‘s possible return to the series. Nathan Riggs was a breath of fresh air in Meredith Grey’s life during those turbulent times, and his departure left a void that hasn’t quite been filled since.

Martin Henderson has addressed the possibility of returning to Grey’s Anatomy.

In the 12th season of the medical drama, the character played by the Virgin River actress made his debut as a romantic interest for Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo). Later on, though, he was removed from the series during the early stages of season 14.

Seven years since his departure, Henderson has spoken about the possibility of returning to the role if given the opportunity.

He mentioned to Deadline that, given his heavy involvement and busy schedule with Virgin River and various other commitments, as well as daily life, he hasn’t had much time for in-depth contemplation on the matter.

However, I strongly believe that Shonda Rhimes has consistently been quite supportive towards me, as we’ve collaborated on numerous projects over the years. Therefore, if an opportunity arises for us to work together again in the future, I would certainly be receptive to it.

“Again, if it fitted in with whatever else was going on in my life at the time and my career.”

Yet, the performer clarified that he’d come back on board only when there was a role for Nathan, stating, “As I believe they weren’t quite sure how to handle Nathan’s character.

Upon Derek’s departure, it seemed like an improvised solution. It felt as though they thought, ‘Let’s introduce a romantic interest.’ So, he and I found ourselves in this setting, but I don’t believe his character was fully fleshed out. If given the chance to redo, I would ensure there was a well-thought-out purpose for his presence.

After Henderson left Grey’s Anatomy, Ellen Pompeo expressed her annoyance that the series hurriedly paired her character with a new love interest shortly following Patrick Dempsey’s departure as Derek.

The 21st season of “Grey’s Anatomy” is broadcast every Thursday at 10pm Eastern Time, specifically on ABC, within the United States. If you’re in the UK and want to catch up on earlier seasons, they can be found streaming on Disney+.
