Hey, so I just found out Martin Freeman’s horror flick, Ghost Stories, is now on BBC iPlayer! It first came out back in 2017, and it’s about this professor who basically makes a living proving that supposed supernatural stuff is all fake. Sounds like a good watch if you’re into that kind of thing!
But his skills are challenged when he encounters three unusual cases that unexpectedly connect to his personal history.
Featuring Andy Nyman from Peaky Blinders, Paul Whitehouse of The Death of Stalin, and Alex Lawther from Alien: Earth, the movie was shown on BBC One last night and is now available to stream on the BBC for the next month.

The film Ghost Stories received positive reviews, earning an 85% ‘Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 130 reviews. Pajiba praised it as “a tense, terrifying, and truly excellent film.”
Just as you expect this collection of stories to wrap up nicely, Ghost Stories completely subverts your expectations with a surprising and incredibly clever twist, according to reviewers.

Both Cultured Vultures and What I Watched Tonight praised Ghost Stories as a highly entertaining and genuinely frightening horror film, with the latter calling it a resounding success within the creepy horror genre.
The film is based on a stage play written by Jeremy Dyson and Andy Nyman, who also directed and wrote the movie. They discussed the difficulties of adapting their work for the cinema when it was released.
Dyson explained that creating a new story from scratch would have been simpler. Adapting the existing material meant a multi-step process, starting with the difficult decision to move away from the original stage production, which they had become very attached to.

Nyman explained that the film and play versions of the story differ in some ways. There are surprises and plot points unique to each version – the film includes things not found in the play, and the play has elements that didn’t make it into the film.
A key element of the play is its structure as a lecture delivered by the character Goodman. Understanding Goodman’s personal journey was crucial to unlocking the story’s meaning and became a central focus.
Ghost Stories is streaming now on BBC iPlayer.
