Martin Compston’s “sweeping” new period drama adds All Creatures Great and Small star to cast
In a simple and engaging manner, the sentence could be rephrased as follows: Actor Nicholas Ralph from the series “All Creatures Great and Small” has joined Martin Compston’s upcoming period drama titled “Wax Fruit.
In the heart of the 19th century, I find myself captivated by a gripping series that unfolds in the bustling city of Glasgow, then considered one of the world’s most influential cities. The narrative traces the journey of the Moorhouse family, who ascend from humble rural beginnings to the pinnacle of Victorian high society.
The story, titled “Wax Fruit“, is nestled amidst the Gaelic-speaking Highlands and the bustling Victorian Glasgow streets. It chronicles the dramatic ascent of the Moorhouse clan, hinting at a city filled with allure.

On Thursday, 26th June, the official Instagram account for Wax Fruit posted and confirmed the news with a screenshot of an article about Ralph’s casting. They accompanied the post with the caption: “Welcome to the Moorhouse family.
I’m thrilled to be part of the talented ensemble that includes Ashley Jensen from Shetland, Bill Paterson, known for Fleabag, Emun Elliott, Shirley Henderson, Molly Windsor, Elaine C Smith, Kenny Doughty, Juliet Cadzow, and Frankie Corio from Aftersun. We’re all coming together in this project!
According to Scottish author Guy McCrone’s trilogy titled “Wax Fruit”, it is characterized as a broad, character-centric period drama with a contemporary twist. The series has been likened to the blend of “Succession” and “Bridgerton”, but set against the backdrop of tartan (as described by Hello!).
Upon my arrival, I commended showrunner Sarah Purser, expressing that her enthusiasm, dedication, and profound understanding of the subject matter and background were truly captivating. With the extraordinary Scottish talent and innovators she assembled – some real icons – I found myself instantly captivated.
After that, Sarah shared episode one. I couldn’t get enough of it – each character is meticulously crafted and distinct, but at the core lies the impressive Moorhouse family. I’m smitten with the setting, the era, and these captivating characters, and I can’t wait to be a part of the Wax Fruit team. Needless to say, my anticipation is through the roof!
The person in charge, who additionally functions as an executive producer on the show, expressed: “We’re absolutely thrilled to announce that the exceptional Nicholas Ralph and talented Emun Elliott will be part of our Wax Fruit crew. Frankly, we feel like we have the ideal cast.
The exceptional talent that Wax Fruit is drawing in speaks volumes about the superiority of our story’s origins and the expertise and ability of our scriptwriters. We’re overjoyed by the continued attention and anticipation it’s generating.
A release date for Wax Fruit is yet to be announced.
