Martin Compston’s forgotten “gripping” British crime thriller is now streaming for free

As a devoted fan of “Line of Duty”, I recently stumbled upon an enthralling crime thriller on ITVX that somehow slipped my radar during its initial release. If you haven’t watched it yet, I highly recommend giving it a go!

The TV series titled “The Ice Cream Girls” was broadcasted for the first time on ITV in 2013, featuring Martin Compston alongside Jodhi May, who is well-known for her role in “The Dune Prophecy.

17 years ago, I found myself enthralled by Dorothy Koomson’s novel, “The Ice Cream Girls.” This captivating tale revolves around two old friends who were once falsely accused of murdering a beloved teacher when we were still teenagers. Now, fate has brought us back together in a way neither of us could have predicted.

What to Read Next

Initially, the show received acclaim from viewers, with an IMDb user labeling it as “an excellent mystery,” further stating: “You’ll be captivated and on the edge of your seat right up to the shocking finale.

In the UK, you can now watch all three parts of the mini-series on ITVX without any charges, as they come with advertisements.

In the meantime, Compston recently agreed to star in an exciting new thriller from Paramount+ called “The Revenge Club.

The upcoming novel by J.D. Pennington, titled The Othello Club, tells a story about six individuals who have all experienced heartbreak and find themselves united through a divorce support group.

Instead of finding healing, the six strangers unexpectedly turn their therapy sessions into a form of retaliation against those who have harmed them. They forge a bond, a promise that alters their lives irreversibly.

At first, it seems like a harmless release, but things soon take a dark turn, and as the group’s acts of retribution grow from playful tricks to fatal ‘mistakes,’ the boundary between righteousness and homicide becomes increasingly unclear.

In addition to Compston, the series will also feature Aimée-Ffion Edwards from Slow Horses, Sharon Rooney known for Barbie, Meera Syal of The Wheel of Time, Douglas Henshall who starred in Shetland, and Chaneil Kular, an actor from Sex Education.

The Ice Cream Girls is available to stream now on ITVX.

The latest print edition from Digital Spy is out now! Grab your copy of “Oasis – Live in ’25” from newsstands or online retailers for only £8.99.
