Martin Clunes reveals next movie role in “massive” new Yorkshire-set psychological drama

Actor Martin Clunes has announced his upcoming movie part, where he will star in a grand, psychologically intense Gothic drama.

As the guy who brings Doc Martin to life on ITV, I’ve made quite a name for myself. Recently, during an exclusive chat with The I, I dropped a hint about my next big move – stepping onto the silver screen! Next year, you’ll find me in Emerald Fennell’s adaptation of Wuthering Heights. Can’t wait to share this new adventure with all you fellow movie enthusiasts!

Clunes hinted that the upcoming film is a grand production by Warner Brothers, with an extensive budget, primarily filmed on sets at Elstree. He also revealed his role as Mr. Earnshaw, the father of Catherine, portrayed by Margot Robbie.

In the coming movie, based on Emily Brontë’s timeless 1847 novel, the focus is primarily on the connection between two families living in the moors of West Yorkshire. However, the heart of the story revolves around Catherine and Heathcliff, portrayed by Jacob Elordi.

As a gamer, I’m excited to share that Robbie Clunes, along with Elordi, will be teaming up with Shazad Latif, Hong Chau, Vy Nguyen, Alison Oliver, Charlotte Mellington, and Owen Cooper in our game. Interestingly, Cooper and Mellington will be portraying the younger versions of the main characters!

In a recent update, Cooper, famous for his work in the show “Adolescence“, hinted at his involvement in a period drama. He mentioned, “I frequently run into [Robbie] and we often chat, but our characters don’t share many scenes together.

Speaking about the production aspect, he found it to be satisfactory despite the noticeable differences. However, he was pleased to report that things were progressing smoothly on the set, especially when comparing it to the continuous takes seen in the series ‘Adolescence’.

Although the movie adaptation of “Wuthering Heights” won’t hit theaters until February, Timothy Clunes has already graced our screens in a six-part drama titled “Out There”. This series follows the lives of a Welsh father-son duo, portrayed by Clunes and Louis Ashbourne Serkis, who find themselves entangled in drug trafficking.

Following its broadcast on ITV earlier in the year, it became official last month that the drama would not be continuing. Martin Clunes mentioned that while we had hoped for a second season, ITV appears to have different plans. Sadly, it didn’t attract enough viewers as they had hoped.

Wuthering Heights is scheduled to be released in cinemas on 13 February, 2026.
