Martin Clunes joins ‘brilliant’ Doc Martin remake – but he’s not playing who you think

Okay, so I just heard that Martin Clunes – you know, the guy who *is* Doc Martin – is going to be involved in the American remake! It’s called *Best Medicine*, and it’s pretty cool that they’re bringing the show over here. The original *Doc Martin* was huge in the UK, running for ten seasons and a bunch of specials all the way up until Christmas 2022. I’m excited to see what they do with the American version, especially with Clunes on board!

Josh Charles, known for his roles in *The Handmaid’s Tale* and *The Good Wife*, will star as Dr. Martin Best. Martin Clunes will appear as a guest star, playing Martin’s father, Dr. Robert Best, a successful gastroenterologist.

Robert is portrayed as a stubborn and forceful man, making his son appear much more gentle and approachable in contrast.

So, this show’s about a doctor named Martin. He was doing really well with his career in Boston, but he just decided to leave it all behind. However, the arrival of his father creates tension for everyone, even his sister, who is portrayed by Annie Potts, known for her role in *Young Sheldon*.

Joining the show are Didi Conn, best known for her role in *Grease*, Abigail Spencer from *Suits*, and Josh Segarra, who starred in *Scream VI*.

Reports indicated that Fox thought Charles’s performance was crucial for a successful pilot of *Best Medicine*. The show was officially approved only after Charles agreed to star in the entire series.

Ben Silverman, an executive producer, expressed excitement from the Propagate team about collaborating with Fox Entertainment on a new adaptation of the popular series *Doc Martin*, written by Liz Tuccillo.
