The new British comedy series, Mother’s Pride, has released its first trailer, giving viewers a first look at stars Martin Clunes and Mark Addy.

The movie, directed by Nick Moorcroft and co-written with Meg Leonard, is set in the West Country and stars Martin Clunes as a pub owner trying to save his family’s business from being taken away.

When his son, Cal—a musician played by Jonno Davies—comes home to try and repair their difficult relationship, he decides to also save the family pub. He gets the whole family involved by starting a small brewery and entering a national beer competition, the Great British Beer Awards.

As one character notes in the scene, the pub is ironically in the running for the best beer, despite being considered the worst in Britain.

James Spring, known for films like Patrick, Blithe Spirit, and Finding Your Feet (through Fred Films), is releasing a new movie in UK cinemas on February 27th. The release was originally planned for September 2025, but has been moved forward a few months.

Shot on location in Wiltshire and Somerset in 2024, this feel-good movie comes from the creators of Fisherman’s Friends. It’s a charmingly British tale about overcoming challenges, making amends, and enjoying a good pint of beer.

The film also features Mark Addy from Game of Thrones, James Buckley known from The Inbetweeners, and Gabriella Wilde of Poldark. Luke Treadaway, Miles Jupp, Josie Lawrence, Stephen Leask, Emily Lloyd-Saini, and Karl Collins complete the cast.

The artwork Mother’s Pride was created based on a true story, and was Moorcroft’s way of honoring the importance of local, family-owned pubs, especially after his favorite pub almost closed down.

Pubs play a vital role in communities by bringing people together, something that’s become even more important during the pandemic to combat loneliness. However, during location scouting, we found many pubs that had been closed for two years and wouldn’t reopen. Each one held a lot of history and cherished memories, and it was heartbreaking to see them empty.

Leonard shared that the pub in her hometown of mid-Wales played a significant role in her life growing up, serving as a central gathering place.

“There wasn’t anywhere else for people to meet, unless it was chapel,” she said.

Bringing people together is vital for the well-being of our community, and this local pub was a crucial part of that. When it was at risk of closing, the community rallied together and purchased it to keep it going.

Mother’s Pride releases in cinemas on 27 February.
