Martha Kalifatidis’ New York Trip Turned Nightmare: Why You Should Never Lock Your Suitcase!

After flying into New York City from Melbourne on Thursday afternoon, Married At First Sight star Martha Kalifatidis struggled to get a good night’s sleep.

The woman, aged 36, shared that she endured a journey lasting 27 hours and eventually reached her hotel in Manhattan. Upon arrival, however, she found out that the United States Transport Security Administration (TSA) had secured her suitcase, preventing her access to it.

In the heat of my fandom, I couldn’t help but decipher the intriguing tales that unfolded in the series of snaps and clips Martha posted on her Instagram Stories.

She wrote, ‘The TSA secured my luggage. It’s such a blast trying to find a locksmith at 1am!’ (With a touch of sarcasm implied.)

In a selfie, shot in black and white and taken from her hotel room bed, the reality TV personality struck a pouty pose next to her big travel luggage labeled ‘Heavy’, for her camera.

The subsequent photo revealed that TSA had opened Martha’s suitcase lock for inspection, found the zipper damaged in the process, and subsequently secured it with a temporary closure mechanism.

She’s never touched this lock before, yet she’s suddenly a pro at cracking it open. A tutorial on how to do it yourself will be shared soon, according to her post along with the picture.

She also shared a photo of the notice of baggage inspection ticket that she received.

‘@TSA Thank you for leaving this very kind note,’ Martha added.

If your bag is locked during a security check by the TSA officer, they might need to break the locks in order to inspect the bag.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) deeply apologizes for any inconvenience, but please note that they are not responsible for any damages to your locks caused during the application of essential security measures.

The special tool used by TSA agents to open locks is not available to the general public.

The TSA screens every passenger’s baggage before it is placed on the plane.

At their discretion, they can choose to open a passenger’s luggage for closer inspection.

If this event takes place, if the baggage has any lock other than those endorsed by the TSA (identified by a Red Diamond symbol), they’ll damage or break that lock in order to open it.

TSA security personnel possess a universal key for all TSA-compliant locks, be they combination or padlock types. This allows them to inspect the contents within your luggage as needed.

But it appears Martha did not read up on travel guides for the US before her trip.

After contacting an emergency locksmith during the late hours of the night to unlock her luggage, undoubtedly spending a substantial amount, the woman with dark hair made her way to a nearby café dressed in her athletic attire.

She ordered several plates of salad, bread, and fries, washed down with sparking water.

‘Naturally, I ate my feelings,’ Martha captioned the photo of her spread.

She also couldn’t resist taking a cheeky jab at her home city at the same time.

‘It’s always nice to be in a city where the kitchen doesn’t close at 9pm.’

After reaching back at the hotel, she made a video call to her fiance, Michael Brunelli (aged 33), and their two-year-old boy, Lucius.

The makeup artist has worked with Michael for the past three years, having first crossed paths during the TV show “Married At First Sight.

She didn’t manage to get any rest last night, but with the house to herself, she took the opportunity to style her hair and apply makeup this morning, as she shared in her subsequent posts on Friday.

In the early morning light, Martha put on a stylish ensemble consisting of an oversized black denim jacket and jeans from Acne Studios, in the modest bathroom of her hotel room.

Initially, she prioritized stopping by at La Colombe Coffee Workshop, known for creating the globe’s first textured iced latte.

‘On my way to get myself 30 litres of coffee immediately,’ she said.

In my opinion, nothing beats the sheer delight of savoring the heavenly sensation of cold, frothy milk. It’s like stepping into a modern era, isn’t it? Yet, here in Australia, we seem to be living in a time warp. I can’t help but wonder why we don’t have an easy access to this refreshing, frothy treat on tap, making every day feel more luxurious and enjoyable.
