Married At First Sight's bride exposes the dark side of fame and why people in Sydney are NOT as friendly as other Aussies

As a die-hard fan of Selina Chhaur, I can’t help but be in awe of her incredible journey! From being a beloved contestant on Married At First Sight to becoming an influencer and podcaster in Sydney, Selina has shown us all that courage, resilience, and a dash of authenticity can lead to greatness.

Since her debut on Channel Nine’s hit reality series, Married At First Sight, back in 2022, Selina Chhaur has experienced an emotional roller coaster journey.

At just 36 years old, this celebrity quickly gained the affection of fans due to her down-to-earth appearance and lively, cheerful demeanor.

However, once she took a daring step by leaving the familiarity of Adelaide for Sydney after her MAFS experience in search of new prospects.

And while her career blossomed, her social life took a hit.

Selina expresses that Australians from Sydney generally aren’t as warm and approachable compared to those from other parts of Australia, and she personally struggled to forge friendships within Sydney, also known as the Harbour City.

She shared that previously she had terrific friendships but a difficult romantic situation. However, now she’s in an exceptional relationship, but she doesn’t have many close friends as before.

As a die-hard fanboy, I’d confess that the bonds forged during the series were nothing short of indispensable to me, providing much-needed emotional sustenance in the wake of production’s conclusion.

‘You need at least one person you can trust,’ she said.

Moving from a regular 9-to-5 job with longstanding friends to embracing a lifestyle as an influencer and podcaster in a fresh urban environment represented a significant shift for me.

‘It’s hard to know who’s genuine and who’s in it for their own agenda.’

But the move also sparked personal growth for Selina.

‘I honestly think everyone should try moving to a new place at least once,’ she added.

‘You can always go back home, but sometimes you find a new home, like I did.’

Looking back at her experience on MAFS, Selina confessed that seeing herself on television led her to question her self-perception.

Selina, famous for her eye-catching platinum blonde locks and daring style statements, admitted that she previously boosted her confidence with trendy accessories such as colored contact lenses.

She once believed that having blond hair and blue eyes was necessary for her to feel self-assured. However, now she is accepting herself as she naturally appears, which has been a powerful experience for her.

‘Watching myself back on TV was confronting—I didn’t even recognise myself at times.’

Transitioning into the influencer world hasn’t been a breeze either.

In this competitive field, it’s essential to cultivate resilience. The hustle is relentless, and not everyone will always support you. Embrace self-assurance, trust in your abilities, and keep pushing forward.

As an ardent admirer, I’ve found myself compelled to conquer my own social anxiety, much like Selina, by stepping out of my comfort zone and engaging with novel individuals at various events.

She shared that during her initial year, her aim was to participate in all events and engage with a different person each time. This experience significantly contributed to her personal growth.

Despite the challenges, Selina believes her authenticity is what has kept her in the spotlight.

She clarified that her reason for joining Married at First Sight wasn’t for fame, but rather her genuine quest for love. She believes this authenticity is what has kept her relevant in the media for a long time, as people tend to recognize sincerity when they see it.

Her reality-focused podcast, titled “Back to Reality,” was highly successful, but more recently, Selina has chosen to step away, confessing that the ongoing turmoil simply grew too much for her to handle.

She expressed that it was becoming increasingly exhausting for her. While she enjoys assisting others, the constant turmoil connected with the production of the show had grown overbearing.

Currently, Selina is concentrating on a ‘laid-back and tranquil living style’, which she has recently adopted and embraced.

Although she no longer feels the need to participate in another dating program following her relationship with Mitchell Diamond, Selina subtly suggested that she might still consider returning to reality television, particularly shows with a travel theme such as The Amazing Race.

‘My partner and I love travelling, so that would be a fun adventure,’ she teased.

She also hinted at possibly appearing on The Block as her partner has a background in trade work.
