Married At First Sight’s Bec Zacharia reveals painful abusive past: ‘I have trouble trusting women’

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been following Bec Zacharia’s story, and she recently bravely shared something incredibly personal. She revealed she experienced years of abuse during her childhood. It takes immense courage to speak out, and I commend her for doing so.

The woman, 35, said she was finally beginning to understand and deal with the lasting impact of what she’d been through.

Bec told Woman’s Day that past trauma has profoundly changed her, leaving her with a persistent feeling that she needs to constantly prove her value.

‘I was told I was ugly and that I’d never find a man who’d love me,’ she told the publication.

Experiencing something difficult at a young age can really shift your self-perception. I’ve spent much of my life feeling like I need to constantly demonstrate my worth.

Throughout the show, people have noticed and questioned Bec’s tendency to react strongly, especially during the third dinner party when she heavily criticized the other brides.

Bec suggested that her difficult behavior on the show might be connected to experiences from her past.

She explained that after experiencing abuse, even minor events can feel much bigger than they are. It’s often not the immediate situation itself that’s triggering, but deeper, underlying feelings.

Bec added that she struggles to trust women, given that her abuser was female. 

‘I’ve had to ask whether that’s connected to my past. The honest answer is, “probably,”‘ she said.

‘I have trouble trusting women as my abuser was a woman.’    

After the dramatic dinner party, Bec told the Daily Mail she had many regrets.

She said her biggest disappointment was that the show, meant to be about love and relationships, focused too much on drama instead. She also acknowledged that she contributed to this problem.

Bec explained she needed to do a lot of work to repair her relationships with those she had hurt.

I want to apologize to both my fellow cast members and to the viewers at home. A few of us were focused on creating unnecessary conflict, and that detracted from the genuine connections on the show.

‘You watch MAFS to see these relationships unfold, we are taking it away from them. I feel guilty.’ 

This follows reports from last week that Bec was fired from her job because of her appearance on the popular reality show.

Sources say that Bec was employed in sales at a manufacturing company in Adelaide when her managers met with her after the third episode of the show aired last month.

‘They just told her that they couldn’t have her there,’ an insider told Woman’s Day.

They fired her because of her actions on the show Married at First Sight and how she was behaving.

The report states that Bec spoke with her managers shortly after starting her job about being on Married At First Sight. They were worried about how the show might affect things.

According to a source, shortly after the show began, producers told the participant they believed it would be best if she returned after filming ‘Married at First Sight’ was complete.

‘She told them that she needed the job to pay her rent and mortgages.’

It seems management offered Bec a deal: she could stay employed if she agreed to avoid any public appearances or promotion.

According to a source, Bec’s employers became concerned after watching the third dinner party, where the bride openly interfered with the relationships of the contestants.
