Married At First Sight leaked texts expose Rebecca Zukowski’s bombshell pact with Steve Powell: ‘This is us against the show’

Leaked text messages have shed light on the issues that led to Steve Powell and Rebecca Zukowski’s unexpected departure from Married At First Sight on Sunday night.

And the truth is far messier than viewers were led to believe.

Recently revealed messages show 51-year-old Rebecca pleading with 50-year-old Steve to remain faithful to her as show producers put pressure on their relationship.

Honestly, it was heartbreaking to watch. Even Bec Zacharia, another bride going through this whole thing, tried to help them, secretly working to fix things behind the scenes. But it was too late, you know? The cracks were just too deep, and nothing she did could save them. It was devastating to see.

Private messages reveal feelings of paranoia and regret, and suggest a growing conviction that the show’s producers were deliberately trying to create conflict and division among them.

Oh, honey, I just wanted to tell Steve how much I love him and that I’m incredibly sorry for ever believing what they said – I totally fell for their lies and twisted story! It was a mistake, and I’m so regretful I listened to them.

She insisted she was incredibly loyal and promised to be there for them, and only them, from now on.

She went on to admit she felt she had been played.

‘I’m so disappointed in myself, they played me!!!’

In another message, she vowed to defend him publicly when filming resumed.

I completely trust you, no matter what happens when we meet again. I’m here for you, always and forever. I promise to always support you.

Rebecca even referred to herself as ‘TV wife Rebecca’, adding that she now understood ‘the game’.

I finally understand what’s going on! I’m committed to us, and I’m hoping we can build a great friendship, even if that’s all it becomes.

While Rebecca was rushing to fix things after the incident, another bride named Bec was secretly messaging Steve, letting him know that Rebecca felt bad about what happened while they were filming.

Bec wrote that after spending the last few hours with the show’s producers, she realizes they tricked her into sharing everything on camera, and she now regrets doing so.

I assure you, she thinks highly of you – she sees you as a genuinely good person and really wants to make things work and rebuild trust. I honestly believe we can succeed if you’re willing to come back, start fresh, and give it another try.

In another blunt message, Bec lashed out at the show’s dynamics.

It’s understandable that you’re feeling frustrated. It sounds like you feel controlled and undermined, with pressure about even basic decisions like what to wear or when to be home. This is making it hard to feel confident and strong. Perhaps everyone needs to step back, reassess their expectations, and refocus on the original goals.

The intervention suggests tensions had escalated far beyond what aired on television.

At one point, Steve appeared wary of Rebecca’s shifting behaviour.

He explained that things were strained with Rebecca, as she seemed upset with him and he wasn’t sure why. He then asked for the message to be deleted, hoping to avoid any further conflict.

Rebecca, meanwhile, was trying to convince him their problems were external.

This is US against the show,’ she wrote. ‘They are going to use you for content.’

She urged him not to let producers ‘break us’ and insisted she would ‘shut it all down’.

‘You have my word that I am going to shut it all down!!!!’

The messages show Rebecca admitting she had become invested in the show’s plot and realized she needed to rebuild Steve’s trust.

‘I know I have to gain your trust and I’m ok with that… We have this!!!’

But the cracks were already forming.

In a revealing conversation, Bec mentioned that Rebecca was willing to apologize and admit she was wrong – but only if Steve could agree to forgive her, let go of the past, and start fresh.

She reminded them that after all their hard work, a small setback shouldn’t spoil what they’ve built – both the show and their connection with each other.

‘It IS going to be ok.’

Despite the promises and late–night pep talks, insiders say the relationship never truly recovered.

Leaked messages show a couple struggling with the stress of being on a reality TV show, as they grapple with real emotions and growing suspicion about how the show is being made.

Although the show featured uncomfortable dinners and heated arguments, the most intense moments actually happened behind the scenes – with a constant stream of urgent texts, heartfelt apologies, and hidden agreements between cast members.

Ultimately, the real issue between Steve and Rebecca wasn’t simply their different personalities. It was a loss of trust, created by suspicion, meddling from others, and the feeling that they were being manipulated as part of something larger.

Neither Steve nor Rebecca have publicly commented on the leaked messages.

Based on what we’ve seen, it seems their relationship had already fallen apart well before the Commitment Ceremony on Sunday.

Married At First Sight continues Monday at 7.30pm on Channel 10
