Married At First Sight’s John Aiken has put his beautiful Sydney home up for sale, and it’s expected to sell for nearly twice what he originally paid for it.
Television psychologist and his wife, an interior designer named Kelly Swanson-Roe, are selling their five-bedroom home in Willoughby East, called Tyneside. The sandstone property is listed for around $5.8 million and will be auctioned on March 5th.
John recently confirmed the move on Instagram, posting a picture of their beautiful backyard and suggesting the family is excited for a new beginning.
‘It’s been a great ride. Onto the next chapter. #greatmemories #newbeginnings #movingon,’ he wrote.
The old house looks beautiful at twilight, bathed in a warm glow. A decorative iron balcony wraps around both floors, and light spills out from all the windows.
This beautifully renovated home on High Street combines the character of the 19th century with all the comforts of modern living. It’s set on a large 777 square meter block.
As a lifestyle expert, I’m always drawn to homes with character, and this one definitely has it! Originally built in the 1880s for one of Willoughby’s founding families, the Forsyth home is perfect for both cozy nights and lively gatherings. It boasts charming details like four fireplaces and a spacious attic, but what I really love is how seamlessly the indoor spaces flow out to the outdoors – it’s designed for entertaining, and that’s a huge plus in my book!
The home features beautifully designed interiors with a marble kitchen, custom-built woodwork, and elegant chandeliers. Outside, you’ll find landscaped gardens offering a barbecue and dining space, a spa with a private cabana, and an outdoor shower.
The house is now for sale six years after the couple bought it in 2019 for $2.93 million. This is the first time it’s been offered for sale in 50 years, following the death of Noel Bracks, a former vice-chairman of the Australian Jockey Club.
The sale is happening at the same time as the new season of MAFS begins, and the premiere of season 13 in 2026 was the most popular launch the show has ever had.
The first episode of the show drew a huge audience of 2.89 million viewers across the country. It started with some immediate drama, including a groom who forgot the wedding rings and a bride who made her groom propose again before their wedding.
John and Kelly have been a couple since 2007 and have two children together. They’re well-known for their love of renovating old houses and creating beautiful interiors.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been following this show closely, and I recently learned from an interview with John that things got really intense behind the scenes! He shared that a particularly strong and assertive group of women really threw the whole experiment off balance – even the experts were shocked by how things unfolded. It sounds like their dynamic created a lot of unexpected challenges.
‘I think it’s the dynamic of the women in the group,’ he said.
Okay, so these women… they run the experiment, seriously. They’re totally in charge and aren’t afraid to call anyone out – guys and girls. Honestly, it can be pretty intense, and sometimes what they say is just…ouch. It really stings, but you can’t look away!
John explained that the strong show of control had a noticeable effect on the men, causing many to become cautious and reserved in order to avoid unwanted attention.
‘It’s different this year,’ he explained.
We paired strong-willed men with the women in the group, and we were surprised to see how the women reacted and spoke to others – the men were often taken aback.
After that, they became more reserved, carefully monitoring their words and actions. They’d had some difficult experiences with their female supervisors and were cautious about how they behaved around them.
Despite the chaos, John insisted the dynamic wasn’t manufactured.
‘We didn’t know that this would happen,’ he said.
We were hoping to cast confident, outspoken women on the show, but we didn’t anticipate the level of impact they’d have.
‘It kind of came together organically. They met at the hens night and it really went from there.’
He also issued a blunt warning about the dinner parties.
‘I don’t know what’s going to make it to air,’ he said.
‘But I just remember thinking at the dinner parties, I don’t think they’ve ever been this hostile.’
John predicted the line between honesty and cruelty would be a major topic of discussion this season, when asked about it.
‘That is a talking point,’ he said.
This season is likely to spark discussions about the line between honest expression and hurtful language. Viewers will probably debate when strong language is acceptable and when it goes too far.
John also announced a groundbreaking casting choice: the show’s first openly bisexual contestant who would be getting married in the experiment.
She told us she was open to being set up with anyone – she didn’t care if it was a man or a woman – and asked us to just surprise her.
The relationship expert also responded to claims that the show’s experts create drama, emphasizing that their goal is always to help couples thrive.
‘We don’t set couples up to fail,’ he said. ‘When we match them, we want them to get over the line.
‘But there are so many ingredients that can make it fail.’
Sources say the show’s creators intentionally switched villains frequently instead of focusing on just one bad guy.
‘No one is the villain because everyone is the villain at some point,’ one insider said.
‘It changes every week. It is emotional whiplash.’
People familiar with the show say producers made the contestants watch a compilation of their most embarrassing and problematic moments, hoping it would encourage them to behave better.
‘They were stunned seeing themselves like that,’ one crew member claimed.
‘But the chaos still continued.’
The wedding participants include Alissa Fay, Bec Zacharia, Gia Fleur, Mel Akbayir, Julia Vogl, Rebecca Zukowski, Rachel Gilmore, Brook Crompton, and Stella Mickunaite as the brides, and Chris Nield, Danny Hewitt, David Momoh, Scott McCristal, Grayson McIvor, Luke Fourniotis, Steve Powell, Steven Danyluk, and Filip Gregov as the grooms.
Many are calling this season the most dramatic one so far, but John believes the most important takeaway is actually quite straightforward.
‘Language is very powerful,’ he said.
Simply claiming to be honest isn’t enough. It’s important to consider how you communicate, because the way you speak can significantly impact your relationships – for better or worse.
