Mark Wahlberg is a popular actor, and his movies have been getting a lot of attention on streaming platforms lately. His newest film is currently at the top of the streaming charts, even though critics and viewers haven’t been impressed with it.
According to Flix Patrol, The Family Plan 2 is currently the most popular movie on Apple TV+ globally and in the United States. It’s the second most-watched title overall, only behind The Last Frontier, which has been on the chart for 51 days. In the U.S., the original The Family Plan from 2023 is the second most-watched title, following the new sequel.
Simon Cellan Jones directed the film, written by David Coggeshall, and starring Michelle Monaghan, Zoe Colletti, and Van Crosby as the Morgan family – Dan, Jessica, and Nina, along with Kyle. Reda Elazouar plays Nina’s boyfriend, Omar, while Sidse Babett Knudsen portrays Svetlana Romanova, a former intelligence agent. Kit Harington joins the cast as Finn Clarke, Dan’s previously unknown half-brother.
Similar to the original movie, The Family Plan 2 tries to be a fun and light comedy, with a lot of scenes set in beautiful Paris. However, despite having a famous cast and stunning locations, the movie didn’t resonate with audiences.
Currently, The Family Plan 2 has a low rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics giving it a 38% score based on 24 reviews. Viewers haven’t been much more impressed, giving it a 36% rating based on over 100 reviews. The original Family Plan movie received 29% from critics and 60% from audiences on the same site.
Dustin Rowles at Pajba described the sequel as ‘almost passable,’ pointing out that The Family Plan 2 doesn’t waste time with complex plotlines or character arcs. He found it fast-paced, visually appealing, and ultimately, easily forgettable – which, according to him, is exactly what it aims to be.
What’s Next for Mark Wahlberg After The Family Plan 2?
Mark Wahlberg has three upcoming movies planned. First, he’ll star in the action comedy Balls Up, directed by Peter Farrelly and written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Following that, he’ll appear in the historical crime thriller By Any Means, directed by Elegance Bratton, with a script by Sascha Penn and Theodore Witcher. In this film, Wahlberg will play Gregory Scarpa, a hitman for the Colombo crime family.
Mark Wahlberg is joining Vera Farmiga and Wood Harris in a new sports dramedy called Weekend Warriors, directed by Stephen Chbosky. The film is based on the 2023 German movie Wochenendrebellen, which was inspired by the true story of Mirco and Jason von Juterczenka, as told in their autobiography. Like The Family Plan and its follow-up, Weekend Warriors will be available to stream on Apple TV, likely in 2026.
The Family Plan 2 is currently available for streaming on Apple TV.
