The Turtles co-founder Mark Volman has died aged 78.
On September 5, guitarist and vocalist Volman passed away following a sudden, unforeseen illness in Nashville, Tennessee. This was confirmed by his representative in a statement shared with People.
The Turtles were famous for their hit songs, such as “Happy Together,” which reached number one on the Billboard chart in 1967, and “Elenore” from 1968.
In 1963, while still attending Westchester High School in California, Volman became a member of The Turtles, who were previously known as the Crossfires, alongside fellow bandmate Howard Kaylan.
2020 saw the diagnosis of Volman with Lewy Body Dementia (LBD), a degenerative condition that impacts cognitive abilities such as thinking and memory, as well as motor skills.
In the year 2023, he communicated to others: ‘The realization struck me that this would open up a fresh aspect of my existence. And I responded, “Alright, whatever may transpire will transpire, but I’ll push myself to my limits.”‘
