Mark Ruffalo’s HBO Crime Series With 96% On Rotten Tomatoes Returning For A Second Season

HBO has renewed its popular crime drama, Task, for a second season. The show, starring FBI Agent Tom Brandis, has earned critical praise and a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. HBO executive Francesca Orsi explained the renewal was due to the show’s consistent growth in popularity.

Orsi stated that they recognized the show’s potential as a compelling drama long before it premiered, and they were thrilled to see how enthusiastically audiences responded each week. According to a Warner Bros. Discovery press release, the series stars Mark Ruffalo. Orsi praised creator Brad Ingelsby’s ability to combine meaningful character development with exciting, fast-paced storylines, and expressed confidence that season two will be just as captivating.

As Orsi mentioned, the show Task has become incredibly popular on HBO, breaking viewership records. Warner Bros. Discovery reported that it drew 11.2 million viewers from its premiere to the final episode and is among HBO’s quickest growing new series ever, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Fans aren’t the only ones looking forward to the return of the Philadelphia task force. Brad Ingelsby, the show’s creator, is also excited to revisit the team, particularly now that Mark Ruffalo is expected to return as Brandis in a new installment.

Ingelsby expressed gratitude for HBO’s consistent backing of TASK, starting with the initial script, continuing through filming, and extending to the impressive launch of the first season. He described HBO as a uniquely supportive creative environment and shared that the entire TASK team – both in front of and behind the camera – is thrilled to begin working on a second season.

Before the show was officially renewed, Inglesby hinted at potential ideas for a second season, mentioning he had thoughts about what could happen with Agent Brandis’ character.

Ingelsbly told Deadline they really enjoyed filming the show’s second season. They praised Mark, saying he’s a fantastic presence on set and a pleasure to work with, and expressed enthusiasm for future collaborations, hinting at many more stories to tell.
