Mark Harmon to make NCIS return in spin-off
As a gamer who’s been through countless TV show reboots and spin-offs, I can confidently say that the return of Mark Harmon as Leroy Jethro Gibbs in NCIS: Origins is like finding an old friend at the gaming convention after years apart. The fact that he’ll not only narrate but also make a brief appearance in the pilot episode? That’s the ultimate Easter egg!
NCIS: Origins will see the return of Mark Harmon as Leroy Jethro Gibbs.
The forthcoming series serves as a prequel to the primary show in the franchise, focusing on a young character portrayed by Austin Stowell, named Gibbs, as he embarks on his professional journey, receiving training and learning the essentials at the outset of his career.
It’s been revealed that Harmon, who was earlier announced to be reprising his role as older Gibbs to narrate the series, will additionally appear in a short stint during the pilot episode of NCIS: Origins, according to co-showrunner David J North.
During a recent NCIS panel discussion, as reported by TVLine, Mark, Gina Monreal (our co-showrunner) and I had a conversation. I’m eager for the audience to be thrilled at seeing him again after such a long time.
Although North didn’t reveal exactly how Harmon might appear in the upcoming episode, there’s a chance we could see more of him in future installments.
He mentioned that they’re concentrating on him narrating the events of 1991. Regarding a potential future appearance by Mark, they remain open to possibilities.
Besides Stowell being the main character and Harmon appearing in a brief role as an older version, other actors featured in NCIS: Origins are Caleb Foote, Diany Rodriguez, Tyla Abercrumbie, Mariel Molino, and Kyle Schmid.
Meanwhile, Stephen Amell recently suggested that he was “c**k-blocked” out of the show’s lead role.
In a recent chat on the “Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum” podcast, Amell shared an interesting tidbit – he tried out for NCIS Origins in the same week he landed the role in Suits: LA’s spin-off.
He shared that he received excellent responses. Previously, he hadn’t explored the side roles for “Suits: LA,” but on Thursday afternoon, he discovered – following not just positive feedback, but insightful tips like, “We believe this could potentially progress” – everything seemed to be put on hold all of a sudden.
Additionally, it seemed as though someone had placed an invisible barrier between us at some point, causing confusion and leaving me feeling rather bewildered and aggravated.
The origins of NCIS haven’t been scheduled for release yet. In the U.S., you can catch NCIS on CBS, and seasons 1-20 are available to stream on Disney+ in the UK.
