
As a huge movie fan, I was thrilled to see The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants did so well in theaters last year, raking in $165 million! And the best news? It officially starts streaming tomorrow, so I can finally watch it again from the comfort of my couch!
Following the previous SpongeBob SquarePants movies released in 2004, 2015, and 2021, Search for Squarepants came out in theaters on December 19th. The film was a hit with audiences, earning $165 million globally on a budget of $64 million.
Starting tomorrow, February 17th, you’ll be able to watch The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants on Paramount+ in the US and Canada. The movie has been available to buy or rent digitally since January 20th, and will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on March 31st.
The new special, Search for SquarePants, is directed by Derek Drymon and written by Pam Brady and Matt Lieberman. It’s based on a story by the show’s creators, Marc Ceccarelli and Kaz. In this adventure, SpongeBob tries to prove he’s brave to Mr. Krabs by going after the Flying Dutchman – a ghostly pirate who wields a sword – even though it takes him to the deepest, darkest parts of the ocean.
The voice actors from the SpongeBob SquarePants TV series all return for The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants. This includes Tom Kenny as SpongeBob and Gary, Clancy Brown as Mr. Krabs, Rodger Bumpass as Squidward, Bill Fagerbakke as Patrick Star, Carolyn Lawrence as Sandy, and Mr. Lawrence as Plankton.
Mark Hamill joins the voice cast as The Flying Dutchman, replacing Brian Doyle-Murray. He’ll be working alongside Ice Spice, Regina Hall, George Lopez, Arturo Castro, and Sherry Cola.
The new SpongeBob movie has been well-received by critics, earning an 80% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Reviewers praised its fun story, impressive animation, and surprisingly touching message, calling it one of the best SpongeBob movies yet.
According to Gregory Nussen’s review in ScreenRant, The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants is a wildly funny adventure. He praises the film’s fast-paced, joke-filled humor, noting that it captures what originally made SpongeBob so popular.
