Mark Geyer’s Heartbreaking Loss: A Mother’s Love Remembered

Radio star Mark ‘MG’ Geyer has lost his beloved mother Leonie at age 81.

On a Friday evening, via social media, the 57-year-old presenter with a 2GB affiliation shared a poignant update, accompanied by a cherished image of his mother from her younger days.

He labeled it with poignant phrases: ‘In profound grief, we share the news of the demise of our cherished Mother.’

‘Beloved Mother-in-Law, Nanny Lee, and Great Grandmother Leonie Alexander – Our cherished queens. May you find eternal rest, love, and peace.’

The ex-NRL player announced that she had unfortunately passed away on Thursday, and a tribute to her life will take place in Penrith.

Australian NRL stars Bryan Fletcher and Cooper Johns both posted love heart emojis.

It comes after Mark’s next career move was revealed after his shock axing from Triple M.

In January, he managed to secure a profitable radio job only two months following his dismissal from the network after serving for 17 years.

He agreed to a three-year contract with Sydney competitors 2GB, to team up with incoming host Clinton Maynard on their newly launched evening show called “Sydney Now,” on this radio station.

‘I’m pumped to be joining the team at 2GB and very grateful for the opportunity,’ he said.

It’s quite an honor to be working alongside some of the most renowned figures in radio history who have walked these halls at 2GB. Here’s to us diving into this esteemed team!

In his new position, the renowned NFL player will regularly appear on The Continuous Call Team and Wide World of Sports shows.

He will link up with returning stars Paul Gallen, Darryl “The Big Marn” Brohman, Mark “Piggy” Riddell, Josh Morris, and Mark Levy as part of The Continuous Call Team.

2GB’s Content Manager, Luke Davis, expressed his enthusiasm about the new addition: “We can’t wait to bring Mark Geyer into our 2GB and Nine Radio family!

MG is a legendary figure in the league, a seasoned media figure, a successful entrepreneur, and a prominent voice for Western Sydney – always ready to share his thoughts.

In a surprising turn of events, Mark was let go from Triple M in November, and it was Daily Mail Australia who first reported that his position was taken over by popular television personality, Beau Ryan.

Many were taken aback by Triple M’s choice to sever ties with the radio personality who has won over fans during his two-year tenure as a beloved host on their Mick & MG in the Morning show.

In a significant change for the radio industry, Mick Molloy, his previous radio partner, will join the broadcast waves of Melbourne in 2025 as well.

The morning program is getting a new name, “Beau, Tarsh & Woodsy,” and will be led by the new hosts, Beau, Natarsha Belling, and former captain of the West Tigers, Aaron Woods.

Their first episode aired on January 20, 2025, and continues to run from 6am to 9am on weekdays.

Lately, Mick Molloy, a fellow host, publicly shared his thoughts on the issue for the first time and explained the challenges they’ve faced while working without the athlete.

In 2000, Mark, a three-time Australian team representative and key player in Penrith’s historic 1991 premiership victory, decided to hang up his boots from professional football.

After gaining significant experience by writing extensively for various newspapers, he later moved into the media industry, holding positions at Triple M and Fox Footy.
