Marisa Abela shared that she was briefly led to believe her husband was going to propose while they were on a romantic getaway to Paris, but it turned out not to be the case – a moment she described as ‘disappointing’.
Amy Winehouse, age 29, married Jamie Bogyo, a West End actor who is 31, in September. The wedding took place at a beautiful, historic manor house in Sussex dating back to the 15th century.
They first became acquainted while students at RADA in 2016, and got engaged in July 2024 while walking in Primrose Hill, London.
Marisa recently shared that the proposal was unexpected, explaining she’d actually thought it would happen a few weeks before, during their trip to Paris.
She shared with The Sunday Times that they were having dinner with friends when her husband excused himself, claiming he felt unwell and needed to return to the hotel. He asked her to continue enjoying the evening without him.
Thinking he was about to propose, the actress carried on with the act, saying, ‘I came home later, imagining roses and champagne, but instead I found Jamie curled up on the floor, feeling sick.’

‘I had to play off my disappointment really quickly!’
The couple recently got married at a beautiful country estate, celebrating with loved ones in a ceremony reminiscent of classic Hollywood.
The couple got married in a beautiful ceremony at Firle Place late in the afternoon. As a sweet reminder of how their love story began, Marisa walked down the aisle to the music from the movie Cinema Paradiso – the film they shared together before first confessing their feelings for each other.
Nate Janis, a close friend of the groom, led the wedding ceremony, and both fathers shared touching readings.
Liadán Dunlea and Iwan Davis, who were classmates with them at drama school, beautifully performed John Martyn’s song ‘May You Never’.
Marisa looked incredibly elegant in a satin dress by Emilia Wickstead, as seen in new photos published by British Vogue. She completed the look with a striking, nine-foot-long veil.
The elegant white wedding dress, reminiscent of Audrey Hepburn’s style, had a fitted waist and delicate off-the-shoulder sleeves. A structured bodice created a streamlined, flattering shape.
She completed her stunning gown with custom-made Jimmy Choo Max 150 heels. The shoes were personalized with the couple’s initials on the soles, making them a sweet and meaningful detail.

I was absolutely captivated by Amy’s wedding look! She finished everything off with her hair swept back into this gorgeous, sleek bun, and the jewelry was just stunning – delicate diamond drop earrings and a breathtaking diamond headpiece. It was the perfect touch!
Jamie looked sharp in a tailored Dunhill tuxedo, featuring classic black and white accents.
Following the ceremony, Marisa wore another beautiful dress by Emilia Wickstead – an ivory gown called the Micheline – to the evening reception.
The dress was long and sleek, cut in a flattering column shape with a tailored fit and a square neckline.
Marisa explained to British Vogue that she chose the dress because it was both striking in its simplicity and comfortable enough to dance in. She wanted something that made a statement but was still practical.
She explained that she wanted an outfit that was both confident and true to her personal style. She loves tailored clothing, and the sporty shorts allowed her to feel comfortable and free.
As a lifestyle expert, I always say the best weddings are all about those first moments as a married couple! This particular couple really nailed it – picture this: they said ‘I do,’ then immediately celebrated with their loved ones surrounded by a joyful shower of confetti. Everyone was toasting with their favourite bubbly and enjoying delicious little bites – it was the perfect, celebratory atmosphere!
That evening, the group headed to Soho House Brighton for a cozy dinner and then spent the night dancing.
