Mariah Carey's complicated relationship with her mom revealed as diva mourns TWO deaths in family

As an ardent fan of Mariah Carey, I have been following her journey since her early days in music, and the recent news of her mother and sister’s passing has left me deeply saddened. Having read her memoir, I can only imagine the complex emotions she must be experiencing right now, a tangle of love, grief, and perhaps even a touch of frustration that life has brought this heartbreak at such a time.

Mariah Carey is mourning, as she lost both her mother Patricia Carey and her sister Alison on the same tragic day.

On Monday the 55-year-old shared the heartbreaking news with her fans, noting that she felt ‘blessed’ that she was able to spend the last week with her mom before she passed away.

Mariah had previously revealed her dynamic with her mother was complex.

In her 2020 memoir, “The Meaning of Mariah Carey,” she depicted their relationship as a complex, thorny bond of pride, pain, embarrassment, gratitude, envy, respect, and disillusionment.

Even with their rocky relationship, Mariah and her mom maintained their bond.

In her memoir, the artist known for her emotional songs devoted a section to Patricia, expressing gratitude for her mother’s efforts and assuring her that love remains constant.

Patricia, who is also mom to Mariah and Alison’s brother Carey, was an opera singer.

In 2009, the pop star told CBS Sunday Morning that her mom was the first person to inspire her.

The individual expressed that their mother served as the initial source of inspiration for them. As it turns out, her profession was that of an opera singer, and even now, she continues to sing.

When Troy Roberts inquired about the origin of her musical skills, she shared a tale told by her mother. According to her mom, while rehearsing for Rigoletto, she repeatedly practiced a specific section multiple times.

‘And then, she messed up. And I said, “No, it goes like this,” and sang it to her.’

After the passing of my dear family members recently, the highly acclaimed musician expressed in a public statement: ‘I am deeply saddened to have lost my mother over the weekend.’

Unfortunately, it was a heartbreaking sequence of events as my sister passed away on the very same day. I consider myself fortunate to have spent the last week by my mother’s side before she too departed.

The statement ended, ‘I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.’

Four years ago, Mariah Carey penned down her thoughts about being brought up by Patricia in her book, expressing that this relationship had inflicted immense pain and bewilderment upon her.

As a committed adherent to my wellbeing, my therapist suggested I figuratively rebrand and redefine my family for the sake of my mental tranquility and inner peace.

‘My mother became Pat to me, Morgan my ex-brother and Alison my ex-sister. I had to stop expecting them to one day miraculously become the mommy, big brother and big sister I fantasized about.’

Mariah hails from Huntington, New York, with a mother of Caucasian descent and an Afro-Venezuelan father named Alfred, who specialized in aerospace engineering.

Her parents’ interracial marriage upset her mother’s side of the family and they later divorced.

They were married from 1960-1973.

As a mom of two now, Mariah remembered the jealousy her own mother felt towards her during her teenage years.

‘Having people you love be jealous of you professionally comes with the territory of success, but when the person is your mother and the jealousy is revealed at such a tender age, it’s particularly painful,’ she described.

Previously, she shared a story about when she was 14 years old. In this tale, Patricia passionately declared, ‘May you someday aspire to be just half as good a singer as I am.’

In the dedication of her book, the author known as the Butterfly Artist expressed: “To Pat, my dear mother, I truly think that in every circumstance, she did her utmost best. With all the love I possess, I shall continue to love you deeply.”
