Mariah Carey snubs Meghan Markle after THAT ‘diva’ controversy in interview ahead of Sandringham show

During a recent, lively interview, Mariah Carey conspicuously overlooked Meghan Markle, revisiting a past strain between them dating back to a notable confrontation about being labeled a “diva,” which occurred three years ago.

56-year-old pop legend Carey was questioned about her encounters with the Royal family before her performance at King Charles’ Sandringham Estate; however, she appeared to have forgotten that she had previously met Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle, aged 44, during their conversation on Meghan’s Archetypes podcast in 2022.

This week on Hits Radio, when asked about meeting the royals, a composed Carey casually mentioned that she found Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, to be “cool”.

Though Markle and her husband Prince Harry withdrew from their active roles within the Royal family in 2020, it’s important to note that she remains part of the Royal Family nonetheless.

During her contentious appearance on Archetypes, episode ‘The Duality of Diva’, Carey labeled Markle as a ‘diva’. However, the singer quickly clarified that she was speaking about Markle’s posture, clothing, and her ‘stunning outfits’, not her personality. The duchess contested this claim.

The duo had previously discussed the intricacies related to the term ‘diva’, along with its negative implications, prior to Carey accusing the duchess of behaving in such a manner.

During the podcast, Meghan noted that it’s crucial for people to keep in mind the possibility of a certain persona, even if there’s an aspect of being a diva associated with it. However, she emphasized that she personally doesn’t identify with this trait.

On the contrary, Mariah promptly expressed her disagreement with the Duchess, stating firmly: “At times, you exhibit behavior akin to a diva, Meghan, let’s not forget this.

In response to the question about any “diva-like behavior” displayed, a surprised Meghan inquired, and the singer responded by saying something along the lines of “Don’t pretend like…”, followed by Meghan asking if the person could see her at that moment.

Mariah clarified, “It’s not just about the sound, it’s also about the appearance. A large part of being a diva is the way one looks, for instance, if you weren’t as attractive and didn’t have the fashion sense, or the stunning outfits, maybe you wouldn’t be regarded as much of a diva.

She stated, “It doesn’t matter to me. Whenever I can, I will offer help, but not in a demanding or high-maintenance way.” Meanwhile, Markle expressed, “What I mean is, I perceive it differently.

Later on, Markle asserted in her podcast that Carey considered her a ‘diva’, and she explained further by saying, “Today, my admiration was toned down a bit. I think she may have sensed it. However, despite that, things were going wonderfully until that specific incident occurred, which undeniably left me stunned. When she referred to me as a diva.

Though you couldn’t observe me, I felt myself break into a slight sweat, fidgeted uneasily, and subtly rebelled within the silence, as if to express, “Hold on, no, what’s going on? How could this be? This isn’t true! Why would you say something like that?

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I found myself utterly perplexed in that instant, wondering if she had stumbled upon some misguided information or impulsively clicked on something that led her to such an unexpected statement. In the heat of the moment, I couldn’t help but question whether our bond was about to unravel suddenly? Was it possible she wasn’t aware of my presence in the conversation?

It is likely that she picked up on my nervous chuckle, and you would have heard it as well. Immediately afterward, she clarified her use of the term ‘diva’ to describe my style, specifically referring to my choice of clothing, posture, quotation-worthy flair, as she perceives it.

She used ‘diva’ as a term of praise, but I took it as an insult. To me, the word ‘diva’ carries a certain connotation, but when she explained its usage in that context, she meant it as a compliment, implying chicness and aspiration. It’s fascinating to me how one word can hold different meanings for different people.

Meghan went on to say: “This experience helped me understand something new, and by starting discussions about archetypes that can limit us, I didn’t initially consider that for some people, reclaiming certain words could be a powerful step towards progress.
