Mari Makinami Best Builds, Teams, and How to Play

Mari Makinami Best Builds, Teams, and How to PlayMari Makinami Best Builds, Teams, and How to Play

Overview

  • Great solo support Nikke, second only to Crown and beating the bunny duos offensive buffs more often than not combined when paired with pierce Nikkes (Depending on Ammo Requirements of Nikkes Buffed)
  • Can be used as a Sub buffer in Campaign for Pierce Teams as more than half of her buffs are not tied to her burst.
  • Lack of defensive utility would led to most teams needing a healer against campaign boss battles/Solo Raids

Newbie/Incomplete Box Section

As a seasoned Arknights player with countless hours spent strategizing and optimizing my roster, I can confidently say that Mari is a gem hidden in the depths of the game’s vast pool of characters. She shines particularly bright in Campaign modes, outperforming Blanc/Noir, Summer Rosanna, and other burst II buffers in most scenarios.

Mari excels as a Burst II Buffer, amplifying attack damage by 82% (both piercing and regular attack damage) and increasing her own attack power by 31%, available for about half of the time. Additionally, she brings along a screen-wiping ability, which can be beneficial during Campaign play.

Although Nikke’s gear primarily focuses on countering Pierce damage, her burst is so powerful that it outperforms most single buffer units, excluding Crown, in this aspect.

In most battles and stages, her Pierce damage boost should be relatively simple to activate. However, there might be exceptions with bosses that have fewer vital HP components, like Special Intercept Modernia, Solo Raid Bosses, or bosses concealing their cores, such as Alteisein. In these instances, it’s advisable to play manually for maximum damage output.

Skill 1: Precision Sniping

Triggers upon delivering a fully charged attack or striking an enemy’s core. Boosts the damage dealt to shields by approximately 100.09% for 3 seconds, but does not affect the Rapture itself. Additionally, triggers when hitting the target’s core and increases piercing damage by around 40.99% for a duration of 10 seconds, benefiting all allies.

Shield Damage

Few Raptures possess the capability to create defensive shields, primarily showcasing this trait during solo raids. Yet, there are instances of shield-generating Raptures found in campaign battles, where this skill might offer some advantage.

I’m sorry to report that this boost doesn’t impact the hit counter shields on Elite Glasses, and it applies to all collaborative characters with the identical buff too.

Target Core

A very easy buff to proc all the time. However there are rare scenarios where manual play is required to target cores/keep core part alive if it can be destroyed. Some bosses also have hidden cores where pierce Nikkes can only hit. It is optimal to hit these manually every 10s if they normally can’t be hit using normal auto-targeting to have full uptime on her pierce damage buff.

Skill 2: Full Focus

As a fan, I’d rephrase that in a more conversational way:

A nifty 31%~ Caster’s ATK boost for all allies for half the match as it procs every 10s. Mari also gains pierce, which will make it easier/possible for her to hit hidden cores against some bosses. This buff also has a visual indicator to help people know when this buff is up for timing purposes, which can be helpful for Snow white teams/Timing bursts in Campaign.

Mari Makinami Best Builds, Teams, and How to Play

Burst: GPS Guided Missile

Impacts every adversary, dealing an amount equivalent to 639.36% of your total attack power as damage.

Screen Wipe

Initially, her screen-wiping ability appears quite potent. Regrettably, it’s not as powerful as it seems. Her Attack Damage increases only after the initial burst damage has been inflicted, implying that her buff does not influence the screen wipe. Despite this, it remains an effective tool to assist the main DPS in clearing the remaining mobs.

Attack Damage ▲

In terms of campaign performance, Mari outshines most characters due to her persistent buff, which is active throughout all waves instead of just against a single enemy group. Her contribution in the game ranks second highest, trailing only the Crown character when evaluating both their skill 2 and overall burst damage.

Campaign

In most situations, Mari stands out as an exceptionally powerful unit in battle campaigns. She often outperforms the bunny team, ranking second or third best in nearly all scenarios. This superiority will soon be reflected on the tier list, as she is expected to drop a tier due to her performance. When paired with pierce Nikkes, Mari brings significant value, and even on non-pierce teams, she continues to offer excellent offensive boosts.

In the game Campaign, Mari can serve as an additional buffer because her ability to increase Pierce Damage isn’t connected to her burst. This means she can be useful even without triggering her burst. Additionally, Mari’s temporary self-buff that increases piercing damage makes her a viable option for generating bursts when required.

Her only “Downside” is that Mari can’t be paired with Naga. Mari does not Proc shields, which means Naga is unable to give core damage buffs, which is a extremely powerful buff for all the current Meta Nikkes in campaign as of now. This Unit synergy not being available to her keeps her in SS tier.

Pierce Damage Team

Liter,Mari,Alice,Asuka,Modernia

Summary, 8.5/10 Campaign Clearing, Strong in Mono Fire Content

A team that can smoothly manage multiple phases, but faces a unique challenge against flatulent raptors since it lacks healing capabilities. This disadvantage becomes significant when battling numerous flatulent raptors or when the battle is fought under steep deficits. However, they can easily be defeated using Alice Burst or Asuka Burst in most other situations.

In this setup, Asuka serves as a moderator, enhancing the team’s damage output slightly, thereby aiding Modernia in swiftly defeating groups of enemies with her powerful burst attacks and allowing Alice to deal more impactful blows. The Commander has the flexibility to switch between the various burst abilities among the three, based on the specific situation at hand.

Sub-Buffer Role

Liter,Crown,Alice,Asuka,Mari

Summary, 7.5/10 Campaign Clearing, Strong in Mono Fire Content

In this team setup, Mari is assigned the role of a “sub-buffer.” This is because her first skill activates upon a core hit, and her second skill is time-based. Essentially, she can function as a “stand-in Naga” for teams focused on Pierce damage. Although Mari may not be as potent as Naga in this role, the team still offers significant burst damage potential when tackling boss waves.

A shocker in this team is, the player can choose between Crown burst and Mari burst as Crown’s ATK buff and reload buff is based on full burst.

Mari deals significantly higher burst damage, approximately 4% more Attack power, and also possesses the ability to clear the screen. On the other hand, Crown enhances his own Attack power with a lasting buff that lasts for an additional 5 seconds.

Red Hood Solo B1 Variant

Red hood,Mari,Alice,Asuka,Attacker

Summary, 8.5/10 Campaign Clearing + Gameplay Tutorial

A team capable of performing either the Sub-buffer role or the Pierce Damage role. The key distinction lies in utilizing Red Hood as the solo burst character instead of a Cooldown Reduction character like Nikke.

A bit harder to play but will outperform Liter in stages where this team can be used comfortably.

Although this locks Red hood out from bursting as a Burst III.

Snow White Team

Generalist Team

liter,mari,scarlet,Modernia,Attacker

As a devoted fan, I’d put it this way: The Classic Campaign squad is a dream for any player who enjoys flexibility. The commander can easily swap in their favorite DPS units, and Mari, being an exceptional buffer, works well outside of pierce teams. Since Nikkes with piercing abilities are scarce, it becomes challenging to create teams without Alice, Asuka, or Red Hood. Essentially, any team deviation from this trio would primarily revolve around using the best DPS units available. This diverse group includes characters like Scarlet: Black Shadow, Maxwell, Snow White, Emilia, Christmas Ludmilla, Ein, Rei, Privaty:Unkind Maid, Harran, and many more.

Arena

In terms of rapid firing, she’s not particularly powerful. Yet, she possesses an area-of-effect (AoE) damage skill that, while it may not outright defeat other Nikkes, can certainly weaken their defenses or reduce their health significantly.

Additionally, she can counteract the incoming wave of damage using Burst III, effectively eliminating most stall teams that don’t have invincibility as a key component.

In contrast to interactions with this particular character, other similar characters known as Nikkes (Blanc) possess capabilities that mirror hers, but they also have additional features like healing abilities and invincibility for ten seconds. This combination makes them exceptionally potent.

Special Interception | Solo Raid | Union Raid

Special Interception

Mari excels at defeating Special Interception bosses, as only about three out of five of these bosses (in EX form) require minimal healing due to their offensive abilities that resemble those of Crown. Consequently, each special intercept boss becomes relatively easy for Mari.

Anomaly

In contrast to other stories, an anomaly arises. Any form of durability or defensive capabilities are crucial for a character like Mari, unfortunately, she lacks both. This deficiency could be overlooked until stage 5 if the player is skillful in managing cover effectively, as it appears excessively durable compared to Nikke’s HP (at level 400). Luckily, the boss Kraken provides us with a unique opportunity to disregard survivability entirely, serving as our primary provider of customizable Modules (Rocks).

Solo Raid | Union Raid

In a different wording, if Mari possessed even a hint of defensive capabilities like Crown, she might have become an inoperable entity within a team setup. Yet, such abilities are absent from her, making it challenging for her to be included in teams or situations where healing is essential.

Pierce Team (No Healer)

Liter,Mari,Red hood,Maxwell,Ludmilla: Winter Owner

A team dedicated to enhancing the abilities of Red Hood, simultaneously absorbing damage for it, which can be replaced by a healing member if required.

Pierce Team 2

Liter,Mari,Alice,Scarlet: Black Shadow,Supporter

Wonderland Bunny can provide effective healing services.

If you own Crown and have a complete team consisting of Liter/Volume, Alice, Scarlet, and Black Shadow, consider pairing them up as they work best when used together due to their synergy. Naga/Privaty can also be included if desired.

Collab Trio

Liter,Mari,Asuka,Rei Ayanami,Modernia

A team comprising all Collab characters, where Asuka and Rei possess certain survival abilities. This isn’t a weak team, but their defensive capabilities may not suffice when facing most solo raid bosses alone.

Snow White Team (No Healer)

Miranda,Mari,Snow White,Maxwell,Dolla

This is our most potent Snow White squad yet. While Snow White teams might be considered specific or rare, when the boss is inclined towards them, they can deal an immense amount of damage.

Replace Miranda with Volume/Liter and Dolla with Helm/Yulha if healing is needed.

Generalist Team

As a “buffer” character, feel free to assign your highest damage-per-second (DPS) units and passive healers if necessary. Ideally, Mari performs optimally when paired with Pierce Nikkes, but she can also effectively boost other team compositions.

Strengths

  • Very strong offensive Solo Burst II Nikke, second only to Crown. Can even be equal to Crown in some cases.
  • Easy to Proc Skill one passive, Which allows her to be a sub-buffer for pierce teams
  • Can be a strong burst generator in campaign due to pierce properties and relatively low reload time for a sniper rifle
  • Leona Costume Inspiration

Weaknesses

  • Mari Has no defensive utility, which can dampen DPS by a bit due to needing a healer more often than not in boss battles.

Notes: (Solo Raid Focused)

Mari is not necessarily weak, but she tends to seem less effective compared to other characters like Crown and Naga/Tia in many situations. This makes for an uncomfortable position for her, as despite being a strong buffer, her lack of defensive synergy with Naga is a disadvantage. Both Crown and Tia/Naga take the lead in terms of piercing abilities, leaving Mari to join teams that don’t have this ability. As a result, she misses out on almost half of her buffs. Stronger Pierce Nikkes could address this problem in future updates.

Recommended Harmony Cubes

Mari Makinami Best Builds, Teams, and How to Play
Mari Makinami Best Builds, Teams, and How to Play

A team that has enhancements for faster reloading is generally more effective when it comes to choosing reload speed. If not, it’s better to utilize the higher-level cube between Resilience and Bastion.

I removed Blanc/Noir and Summer Rosanna from Tier. If necessary, I will also remove other Burst II buffer characters to make way for these changes.

Mari is typically preferred among the trio, excepting instances where she clashes with Fart Raptures. Generally, her damage output will surpass her healing capabilities more often than not.
