Margot Robbie’s forgotten crime comedy becomes a Netflix hit

As a long-time fan who has followed Margot Robbie’s career since her breakout role in “Suicide Squad,” it’s always a delight to see her past work resurface and find new audiences. The fact that “Focus” is currently Netflix’s fifth most-watched movie globally is a testament to its timeless appeal, especially with the charm of Will Smith adding fuel to the fire. It’s quite ironic, really – a movie about con artists finding success through an unexpected twist!

Margot Robbie’s forgotten 2015 film Focus has found a second lease of life on Netflix.

In this rephrased version, the action comedy features Will Smith as one of its stars. The plot revolves around a swindler who decides to mentor a captivating woman in the art of deception. However, he becomes increasingly preoccupied with his developing feelings for her.

The movie was launched about a week following Valentine’s Day in 2015 and managed to gross more than $158 million on a production budget of $50 million. However, it fell short of causing a significant stir at the box office.

It appears the film has resonated with Netflix audiences, currently ranking fifth as the week’s most-watched movie globally (November 11 to November 17). According to Tudum, it has accumulated a total of 5.4 million views within this period.

Alita: Battle Angel and Minions: The Rise of Gru are in 4th and 3rd place, respectively.

Despite it not being Christmas season just yet, the leading two films on the list are brand-new Netflix holiday releases. In second position is “Meet Me Next Christmas,” featuring Christina Milian, while “Hot Frosty” takes first place, starring Dustin Milligan from “Schitt’s Creek” and Lacey Chabert, a well-known festive film actress.

This series delves into the lives of flight attendants and pilots working for Pan American World Airways during the 1960s, featuring Christina Ricci and David Harbour alongside Robbie.

In the meantime, Robbie’s movie titled “A Big Bold Beautiful Journey” has set its release date for next year. Additionally, it’s been disclosed that she will be collaborating with actor Jacob Elordi from Saltburn and director Emerald Fennell on a fresh take of “Wuthering Heights”.
