Margot Robbie’s best movie is on TV tonight

As a cinephile who’s seen my fair share of films, I must say that Margot Robbie’s performance in “I, Tonya” truly stands out as one of her finest moments on the silver screen. It’s not every day you witness an actress transform into a character so flawed yet captivating, and Robbie did just that with her portrayal of Tonya Harding.

Last year saw Margot Robbie achieve the most significant career triumph yet with the film “Barbie“, sparking controversy as she was overlooked for a Best Actress nomination at the Oscars.

Despite Barbie being exceptional and excelling in this film, it didn’t quite reach the level of her finest movie, which still stands as “I, Tonya”.

In 2017, the biographical movie depicted Margot Robbie portraying Tonya Harding, the once-promising figure skater whose career was ruined when her former husband plotted to harm fellow Olympic contender Nancy Kerrigan in 1994.

If you haven’t caught it yet or feel like watching it again, the movie “I, Tonya” will be broadcast tonight (December 27) at 11:15 PM on BBC Two.

There’s no need to fret if it’s past the movie-watching window around Christmastime and New Year, since the film “I, Tonya” can be streamed on BBC iPlayer not long after its airing.

In the event, Tonya, that’s me, witnessed Robbie earning her initial Oscar nomination for her performance. Regrettably, however, it was Frances McDormand who took home the Best Actress award for her role in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

2022 saw Robbie confess that it was her role in the film “I, Tonya” that was the first time she watched herself act on screen and felt confident about her acting abilities.

Her experience built up her belief that she was worthy to connect with filmmakers like Quentin Tarantino. Later on, this opportunity resulted in her featuring in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, a role she described as a dream come true.

It’s worth noting that “I, Tonya” was the debut film for Robbie’s production company, LuckyChap Entertainment. Since then, this company has contributed to movies like “Saltburn”, “Birds of Prey”, and the upcoming “Barbie”.

One upcoming film from them is going to be a real-life version of “The Sims,” with the renowned “Loki” creator, Kate Herron, taking on the director’s role and collaborating with Briony Redman in scriptwriting.

It’s not yet known whether Robbie will appear in the movie.

Tonight, December 27th, catch “I, Tonya” on BBC Two at 11:15 PM. Right after it airs, you can stream it on BBC iPlayer.
