Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights features a famously destructive relationship, where Heathcliff and Cathy inflict pain on each other and others because of their personal struggles and imperfections. After filming a movie adaptation directed by Emerald Fennell, Margot Robbie described feeling deeply affected by the end of production, telling Fandango she felt “like a kid without their blanket” after parting ways with her co-star, Jacob Elordi.
Her remarks gave the impression that the actors were blurring the lines between themselves and their roles, becoming overly reliant on each other – a notion the Barbie actor was quick to dismiss.
Speaking to Glamour, Robbie cleared up what she meant when she made the initial comments.

We all had a fantastic time working on the film, and I genuinely enjoy making movies. It’s especially rewarding when I get to collaborate with great people who become friends, so it’s always a little sad when the project wraps up.

Robbie also spoke about being drawn to playing characters in dysfunctional relationships.
I used to research this topic extensively. I think seeing those kinds of relationships play out on screen is compelling because they often involve deep emotional pain. And naturally, that type of connection can be quite unhealthy or even harmful.
The love between Cathy and Heathcliff becomes damaging and harmful to everyone around them when it isn’t returned.

Honestly, I thought getting into the headspace of playing such a messed-up relationship would be the hardest part of filming. But it turned out the real challenge was saying those iconic lines – the pressure of doing them justice was intense!
The most difficult part was definitely delivering some of the famous lines from the book,” she said. “Realizing the weight of performing a line like ‘to be or not to be’ was intense – you know, those words have been spoken by amazing actors before, and will continue to be. It’s a lot of pressure!
It’s strange to speak these well-known lines – lines that mean so much to fans of the book – and try to deliver them as if I’m discovering them for the very first time.
