Oh, where do I even begin? As a die-hard fan who has spent countless hours lost in the whimsical world of The Sims since its inception, this news has me jumping for joy! Margot Robbie, one of my all-time favorite actresses, is now bringing my beloved video game to life on the big screen. And let’s not forget Tom Ackerley, the mastermind behind the scenes who shares my love for digital mayhem and creation.

Approximately half a year following the initial announcement about Margot Robbie and her spouse Tom Ackerley working on a film adaptation of The Sims, this information has since been verified.

On Tuesday, as reported by Variety, EA, the publisher of the popular video game series, officially unveiled their new project.

Robbie and Ackerman, both aged 34, are currently working together under their production company, LuckyChap Productions. The upcoming film will be directed by Kate Herron, who is known for her work on Loki.

Additionally, Herron will collaborate with Briony Redman (from Doctor Who) on the scriptwriting. Unfortunately, there’s no word yet on the production timeline or release date for this project.

On Tuesday, Kate Gorman, Vice President and Head of The Sims franchise at EA, shared their aim for the upcoming film to create a similar significant impact as Robbie’s blockbuster movie Barbie.

‘What I will tell you is it’s very much rooted in The Sims’ universe. And what we want is to have a truly authentic ‘Sims’ experience brought to a theatrical release,’ Gorman said.

Essentially, Gorman stated that we’ve been striving for perfection by seeking suitable partners. Our goal is not just to achieve success but to create an effect as significant as a blockbuster like a Barbie film.

Last year, the film titled “Barbie” – that Robbie acted in as well as produced through her LuckyChap production company – led the way on both the U.S. (earning $636.2 million) and global box offices ($1.445 billion).

Similar to Barbie, The Sims originates from a well-known franchise. Its initial video game was launched in 2000, and since then, more than 200 million copies have been sold globally, positioning it among the most successful video game franchises ever made.

In simple terms, The Sims can be considered an open-ended game that lets you design digital characters known as Sims and construct their lives.

As a lifestyle connoisseur, I can confidently say that the affection and reminiscence for The Sims runs deep within many of us, perhaps deeper than we might consciously acknowledge. Across various generations, countless individuals, including myself, have immersed themselves in this unique virtual world.

Gorman expressed a desire for the event to embody the rich history and global participation it represents, while simultaneously being something that multiple generations can engage with and become a significant part of popular culture and cultural relevance.

Partnering with well-known figures from the Hollywood film industry, the next phase of The Sims promises to share its enchantment with countless additional enthusiasts, as stated by EA Entertainment president Laura Miele.

She noted that the lasting influence of this cherished series is evident, as it has enchanted over 500 million gamers for the past 25 years.

She emphasized that our dedication to continuously innovating the ‘Sims’ world, encompassing various experiences and goods, will captivate players from every generation who are passionate about the Sims.

Gorman stated that the movie will be deeply connected to the world of The Sims, aiming to deliver an authentic Sims experience on the big screen. However, representatives from EA have yet to confirm the film’s official release plans.

In the movie, you’ll witness an abundance of ‘The Sims’ world being brought to reality, and many of the beloved gameplay moments that our gamers have experienced will also be depicted on screen, as stated by Gorman.

As an ardent admirer, I’m all about bringing the genuine Sims experience to life! We’re aiming to create the most extensive Sims package yet, something that will captivate both seasoned players and those who are new to this wonderful world. Gorman shared that we can help spread the Sims story by watching a movie about the Sims universe, allowing us to share this enchanting gameplay with our loved ones who might not have experienced The Sims before.
