Maren Morris says son Hayes, four, received death threats when she spoke out against Morgan Wallen
As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for societal trends and a deep understanding of personal experiences, I wholeheartedly admire Maren Morris for her courage and unwavering commitment to speaking out against racial and gender injustices within the music industry. Her life experience has not only shaped her as an artist but also as a strong advocate for equality and inclusivity.
Maren Morris recently disclosed the intimidating reaction she encountered after publicly criticizing Morgan Wallen for his usage of a racial epithet, which was captured on video and published by TMZ last year.
34-year-old country artist stated that her son Hayes, who is four and shares a family life with former husband Ryan Hurd, had been targeted with threatening messages due to criticizing Wallen, aged 31, previously.
On Sophia Bush’s Work in Progress podcast, the singer expressed that the situation was ‘frightening.’
She expressed that the threats weren’t only directed at her but also towards her son. Essentially, she was saying, “This is not just about me; it’s about my child as well.” In other words, she found it alarming because now the children were being targeted.
‘As a young mother, [the situation] was obviously scary,’ she reflected on Sophia’s show.
Back in 2021, Maren called out sexism and racism within the entertainment scene.
She emphasized that female artists were likely to be ‘dropped, endorsements lost, [and become] social pariahs to music row,’ if they were in Morgan’s position.
‘We keep [white men] rich and protected at all costs with no remorse,’ she wrote on Twitter.
She stated, “‘Indeed, it symbolizes [Nashville], as this isn’t his initial brush with controversy, and he recently shattered a significant streaming record last month,’ she commented about Wallen.”
‘We all know it wasn’t his first time using that word,’ she added.
In spite of facing criticism over her remarks, the artist behind the popular song “Background Music” stated that she would make the same statement once more.
On the new podcast episode, she affirmed: ‘I feel the exact same way as I did that day.’
“Perhaps there are more graceful avenues to convey my message; nonetheless, Twitter is what it is.”
She continued, ‘Don’t be racist. Don’t be transphobic. Don’t be homophobic. I still stand by that so if you’re expecting me to feel bad, no I [don’t].
To be honest, the thing that saddened me is discovering that, even within this music-centric community in Nashville where I reside, there seems to be a lack of champions for individuals of color, leaving me to wonder, “Who will stand up for you if not me?”
In another part of their conversation, Morris talked about her choice to reveal her bisexuality publicly, which she did back in June.
‘It was something I always knew about myself,’ she revealed.
She shared with the actress that from the age of eight up until now, it can be challenging at times for her to clearly differentiate between her romantic feelings towards women and her deep affection for them.
Ahead of her music collaboration with MUNA on their queer track titled “Push Me Over,” she felt motivated to reveal a personal detail about herself first.
She clarified that the chaos surrounding the new music could be frustrating for some, but from her point of view, it felt like an occasion worth celebrating.
She stated, “I felt it necessary to lay everything on the table. For my personal perspective, it feels important that I present a transparent image moving forward.” Additionally, she expressed, “In essence, I’ve decided to lead an unguarded life, revealing every aspect of myself without any reservations.”
She expressed her choice of a relaxed method by saying: “Rather than issuing a formal press release, I opted for a more casual approach – simply including the information in an Instagram caption alongside a tour photo.”
In my approach, I prefer maintaining a casual and cheerful tone since extensive explanations or detailed writings aren’t typically necessary for me.
